Open drain outputs on SN74AHC05N
« on: November 11, 2019, 05:39:53 pm »
Currently working on making a z80 computer on a breadboard. Everything went pretty smoothly but for some reason the inverter chips I happen to have are giving me trouble.

The datasheet for the SN74AHC05N says that they have open drain outputs, but when a logic one is applied to one of the 6 inputs the corresponding output is not getting pulled low and is still hovering at my supply voltage (5v) even through a 10k pullup.

Since for some reason I can't find anything else on this topic I decided to ask here to see if anyone can think of a reason this is happening, thanks in advance.

My bad, turns out my breadboard has a dicky contact at the vcc pin of where I put the inverter. Serves me right for using a 10 year old breadboard for the control logic. Sorry if I wasted anyone's time lol
