Distributors for FPGAs
« on: March 13, 2018, 02:34:43 pm »
Hi,

I need a specific FPGA (MachXO2 from Lattice) for my next project. Because I live outside of the US every well known distributor (digikey, mouser) would charge a lot for shipping (unless the price for the order is above 50€).
So I would like to ask if there are any other distributors in europe which sell these chips? I didn't find any on ebay or aliexpress.

Thanks for the help

Arrow and Future Electronics don't have the specific FPGA I need (https://www.mouser.de/ProductDetail/Lattice/LCMXO2-1200HC-4SG32C?qs=sGAEpiMZZMvoScKlWpK8TJPrOdKEdsHYVky1nfhMcnk%3d). Farnell is not available for private customers, Digi-Key and Mouser charge high shipping costs.

Also check out if your country has local re-distributors.

Where would I find them?

Do you have any contacts in China? I thought aliexpress would sell everything but as it seems they don't.

Shipping costs are always an issue when you do low-volume projects. But if the shipping cost is the only thing between you finishing the project and not, you have no choice.

The two parts I need cost 5€ and the shipping costs would be around 15€. Maybe I am a bit spoiled by the cheap stuff from aliexpress.

I never use eBay or AliExpress. I prefer to get parts from authorized distributors or direct from the manufacturer. I don’t have time to deal with possible fakes.

Of course, I live in the US so ground shipping is $7.99 for most things and parts arrive in two days. And yeah, it does kinda suck when you pay the same for shipping as you do for the parts, but given the choice between finishing the design and not, well, like I said there is no choice.

We are all spoiled by Amazon’s free shipping, but remember, Amazon doesn’t make money shipping stuff to consumers, so they can afford to eat the shipping cost.

Digikey is free from 65€ on or so. Buy your parts, pad the order with stuff you may need anyhow (resistor set? Electric tape? Solder lead? Flux cleaner? Whatever...)
