Running raspberry on laptop screen
« on: June 23, 2015, 03:15:49 pm »
1. I have RPI2, model B with raspbian loaded on it.
2. TO see the GUI, you have to connect a seprate monitor to RPI2 board.
3. Is there anyway so that data can be viewed on laptop screen.
because usually we carry laptop rather than monitor.

4. One way is to get data out on uart terminal. But that is entirely terminal based.

5. Also I have reading this:
https://pihw.wordpress.com/guides/direct-network-connection/

I am through all steps & can ping the laptop also. Able to set up connection by putty also.
I am stuck in last step titled "Using X11 and Xming"
Nothing happens when I run Xming, no screen opens.

If you can use static ip-adresses and can network raspi and laptop, you could always use VNC or one of its variants...
Electronics, Linux, Programming, Science... im interested all of it...

https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/remote-access/vnc/

IIRC, I also had to google around a bit to give the raspi a fixed IP address on my network but once setup, it works like a dream.  Likewise, you can use Putty on your laptop to connect to the raspi command shell using ssh.

Good luck, Bob.
