Scrap gol and silver
« on: April 29, 2018, 04:23:48 pm »
Wondering if anyone can offer suggestions, i have aprox 7200 gold plated silver contacts on copper from relays, trying to get silver and gold seperated, by hand is taking forever. Had them tested and are 25% gold and 65% silver each contact weight of each is approx .206 grams

Amalgam the gold with Hg then heat the amalgam to boil off the mercury?
Do it in a sealed system with a water cooled condenser to recover the Mercury for reuse.....

IIRC there is also an approach using an CN salt, but that may actually be MORE dangerous then the mercury amalgam approach.

There is an odd little corner of US Ebay fascinated by this stuff, fairly sure just selling the pins there will get you more then the gold is actually worth.

Regards, Dan.
