Self made Bob Parker ESR meter
« on: May 11, 2015, 08:42:17 am »
Hi everone.
I going to reassemble Bob Parker ESR meter myself all from scratch. My knowledge is a beginner stage electronics and i thing it's going to be very instructive for me.
I found some schematics on the internet as a pdf files.I'm going to do my first pcb etch.I have read a lot of know hows and watched home made youtube teachings. Is it possible to assemble without programming Z86E0412 microchip? And are we able to instead of using 3.58MHz crystal resonator 4 Mhz or 6 Mhz resonator?Or do you guys have a any other self made esr meter suggestions.
Thanks.

Absolutely, it just won't measure anything.

Perhaps have a look at one of the other analogue designs, there are plenty.

Since you can't get the program HEX file or the source code, why would you use the Z86..? (unless you already have the devlopment environment and are used to develop for this platform).
You should be able to find som inspiration here: http://kripton2035.free.fr/esr-repository.html or here https://www.eevblog.com/forum/projects/5-transistor-esr-meter-design/ and this https://www.eevblog.com/forum/projects/esr-meter-adapter-design-and-construction/

I have made myself a ESR meter with an Atmel ATtiny861 and 1 by 8 LCD where I use one of the x32 differential inputs with 64 times oversampling. After some fighting with the timing in assembler code it works satisfactorily down to 1mOhm resolution (still working on a better calibration rutine before I dare to publish the construction).

hmm that's bad.
What about resonator does it work with 4-6 Mhz?I think im going to buy one either blue esr or bob parkers version.c'mon man Dave has one :)
Is there any similar that does not contains Z86E0412 microchip  ?

Did you find nothing here: http://kripton2035.free.fr/esr-repository.html?
This is the most complete collection of links related to ESR measurements that I've found!

Black flag is quite acceptable on the forum for those who wish their location to be confidential.
A Location in ones profile kinda defeats the intended purpose of a black flag.

Possible, but it becomes difficult referring to companies, shops and schools etc. It is my experience that the availability of components and books depends on where you are in the world.

We have an old saying in Norway that sounds something like this: "Boastfulness should be listen to, because it comes from the heart"

But it is still the most complete collection of ESR related stuff on the internet!  :-+

Exactly, while I respect some members need for confidentiality, many are just too lazy to list their location in their profile and they then wonder why they can't get advice that is pertinent to their location.  :palm:
Dave has tried to address this recently by having a location as compulsory when signing up.
That just bought out some "smart arse's" listing their location as "somewhere".

A cumpulsory flag would have been a much better option, black or otherwise.
