Silhouette Cameo for less than 0.5mm pitch

I'm considering buying a Silhouette Cameo or making myself a laser cutter (following an instructable). Just wanted to know which would be a good idea. I'm told the Silhouette Cameo does a tidy job at 0.5mm pitch but can it go any lower? Would the laser be able to do this? Would it burn the material?
