single sided pcbs to test spray paint and laser method
« on: January 03, 2018, 03:31:47 pm »
Just want some simple useful pcbs to test pcb etching using black spray paint, a K40 laser cutter/engraver, 1 A4 sheet FR4 and ferric chloride etchant. Any and all advice welcome. Especially interested in a through hole design for a plcc44 breakout using a socket as I tried to make one in Kicad but it seemed to tight to etch properly. I've never tried any surface mount, but would like to try, just not with the plcc as its a z80 for a future project

Hi, farmerni
is use this method on a regular basis to save me time. I upgraded  :-/O an K40 with a Arduino Mega2560, a ramps 1.4 and the Drivers, running now marlin, because the crap driver board that was inside (especially this Moshi shit) is unusable.
Since then i can produce pcbs with pitches down to 0.4mm. The bottom layer is used as ground plane without traces and i try to use smd wherever possible to save me most of the drilling.
The Layout is produced with KiCAD, the CAM processor is Estlcam which generates gcode from a .dxf.  Total time from a layout to solerable PCB is about an hour (no rush).

But this won't be cheap. In fact the plain Material costs are higher than a PCB shipped from China :-//

thanks mine is standard with coreldraw and it is reasonably easy to put in dxfs, so might draw up a board later and test
