Slide potentiometer pin configurations

Hello,
I am trying my first repair - trying to replace a broken slide potentiometer on my PB-503 prototyping board. I ordered a replacement part, but it's pin configuration seems to be the mirror image of the part on the board. I have attached a picture of them side-by-side. Do slide potentiometers come in left- and right-handed configurations, and how can I tell before I order one online? Or is it just a custom part and I'm out of luck?

The better (IMO) part suppliers have datasheets on most all items (Newark, Digi-Key, Mouser, Allied Electronics, OnlineComponents, Grainger, etc.).

Thank you for the tip - I reviewed the data sheets and found an appropriate part.
