Spare set of test probes/leads ?
« on: December 23, 2017, 10:54:35 pm »
I picked up a spare set of leads for my Eevblog/Brymen 235. Do these ever go bad or malfunction? The spare set is identical to the set that came with the meter.

Thanks

They perform and look well made to me    :-+    and should last if not abused or driven over by a forklift...twice

Perhaps Dave might consider dissecting trashing a set   LIVE ON YOUTUBE    vs the Fluke equivalent standard leads

Over time, under use, leads do fatigue. Insulation ages, cracks.

So yes, probes are a disposable.

But that being said there are many old probes around, like Tektronix,
LeCroy, that are serviceable over many years.

Thank you for the responses. I apologize for being a newbie. The spare probes that arrived, are exactly the same that were supplied with Dave’s Eevblog/Brymen 235 Meter. High quality. No complaints from me.

Thank You. You guys rock! 👍

Good probes should last a long time. The only time I've had to replace my Fluke probes are a couple of bone headed mistakes years ago where I tried to measure 120V without realizing I was still set to measure current, and another case where I had them poked into something and caught it with my leg and bent the tip over.

depends...I killed my mastech probe (and a floor tile) by drpooing 2 kg hammer onto it
and my meco probes got tarnished...
but eevblog proobes are gold plated (maybe jewellor to plate them if they aren't) so they don't tarnish

just don't streach them....They are simply long wires.
