Struggling to identify AC solenoid suppressors
« on: August 16, 2015, 10:49:15 pm »
I'm currently working on retrofitting an old CNC milling machine, and am currently working on the tool changer.

All the pneumatic valves on the changer are 230V, and have a suppressor fitted into the DIN connectors. Are these still available, if so what are their proper name, or is newer practice (this mill dates from the late 80s/early 90s) to mount suppressors elsewhere?

I've tried searching for new DIN connectors with built in suppressors, but my searches have drawn a blank, and I suspect I'm searching for the wrong thing.

Thanks for that.

After searching for that, the penny dropped and I searched for "solenoid DIN plug surge", which found a couple suitable sources.
Seems to be the more common term is Protected/Protective circuit connectors, which turned up far more suitable sources.

As usual, it's all about knowing the correct term to search for!

They're often built into pneumatic valves, so if you're replacing the valves check to see if the replacements have one already.

I often use a TVS rather than a MOV because they're smaller and easier to cram into a DIN connector.
