I strongly recommend "Electronic Principles" by Malvino. The most recent edition is ridiculously expensive, so get an older one. I have the 1st and 2nd. I taught myself from the 2nd and later found the 1st as a discard. It has some very useful stuff the 2nd dropped to make room for other things. The *really" good thing about Malvino was he personally built and tested every circuit example! Not many authors work that hard. I assume that has continued through later editions, but don't know for sure.
The next step (a *big* step) is "The Art of Electronics" by Horowitz and Hill.
Have Fun!
