« on: December 09, 2014, 11:15:31 pm »
finally i came across this Logic Analyzer and its pretty cheap but not sure if is good one as i dont understand the specs being a newbie :scared:  :-//

http://www.ebay.com/itm/121465262308

(100MHz 34 channels Logic Analyzer Timing-State Logic Analyzer 16 CH Counter

Feature:

1, 34 channels can Sampling rate can set for 125M,100 M, 50 M, 20 M and 10 M and 5 M... Until 100 HZ.

2   Digital signal input, the input voltage range from-1 V to 6 V, more than 1.6 V regard as logic 1,or regard as logic 0 .

3, Support USB 2.0 High speed.and also support USB 1.1 and USB2.0 FULL Speed. The sample first store into the memory of SSRAM internal ,and when being full or stopped manualy,it the update the data store in SSRAM to PC.So it can sampling all 34 channals at upto 125MHZ.

4, It use timing state mother to record datas--when started it always sampling but only store datas when the logic from enbaled channles changed.

5, It use a 256K*36 SSRAM (cy7c1361),and can record from 128K to 256k sample,regardless the sampling time:this benifit to the Timing-State motheld,and  it nothing changed,it can sample N year~.

6, Data sampled can displayed in a group you created and can display as HEX,OCD,DEC format. This furthera is very usefull the you probering a bus.

7,Not only support internal samping clock, but also spport the extnal colck source as sampig clock, this can help you sampling synchronized with the target clock. You can even set the active exterl clock edge, posedge of clk or negedge of clock.Addion on, it also can use this Timing-State mothed when using the extnal clcok.

8,Now support decoding the SPI, UART, the I2C, PWM.it display the value in a list, when you double click, the currious will move to the postion in waveform.

9, drive and PC are complete support WIN2000, XP, VISTA, WIN7 32 bit, WIN7 64 bit operating system, each had actual test is passed. Enlish Software avalibale.

10, Input impedance for 100 K ohms, caplity is 5 PF. The parameters of the mainstream, prevent to produce impedance load.

11,CY7C68013A (usb interface chip ) +  EP2C5T208(FPGA) + CY7C1361(storage memory).

12,Limited by my poor English ,there are more feature await for you to discover. In one word,i actvially worth buying.I designed every detail of this LogicAnalyzer, including software, hardwear, diver, firmware,PCB,and even the box.I hope this product will help every engnieer, and I also  like to hear your suggestion .
13,  Waiting for more.

I'm resurecting this thread... I've got a need for a logic analyzer and am also a bit 'confused' (or don't know what the hell I'm looking at)
there seems to be quite a few available on ebay (traditional units and usb).

We could use a decent guide.  which older units are viable/recommended (~)
My job is so secret, even I don't know what I'm doing!

Which logic analyzer to get is a function of what you need. Without knowing what YOU need, there is no way to tell you which one to get.

It is THAT simple.

In terms of older units (and I take that to mean full size bench units) there are lots of HPs floating around on eBay for ~£100 - £150 GBP (most are in the US though). I don't have experience with these due to budget but they are made by a reputable brand and can be had for a reasonable price in the scheme of things.

I have some older HP equipment; for some, the troubleshooting calls for a Signature Analyzer, and I have one, a 5004A.
but you're basically probing a specific circuit and looking for a particular hex output.

Based upon this experience, I could see the benefit from having a LA at my disposal, should the need arise.
Prices seem affordable right now and getting one and not having an immediate need is okay and would trump
having the need and not having one. ;)

So yeah, I don't k now what I specifically need, right now.  I was hoping that a good portion of the ones out there would be generic enough to
cover typical troubleshooting needs in the future.  does that make sense?

Most of the fancy functionality is in the software. So evaluate the software as part of your decisioning process.

On the low-end, Saleaes + its various clones are pretty good.
