Suppression Diode - Unknown Polarity
« on: November 16, 2015, 11:58:22 am »
Hi Everyone,

I'm building a gate controller using two SPDT relays to control an actuator. I've suppressed both relay coils with a 1N4004, which is fine. (I think). But the output for the actuator also needs suppression, correct? But the polarity reverses every time I reverse the direction of the actuator motor. What should I be doing in this application?

Also, should I be adding 1nF capacitors parallel with the coils?

Thanks!  :)

You can use a bidirectional TVS diode.
