Talking to GPIB-Equipment using RS232-Adapter
« on: August 22, 2016, 06:18:28 pm »
Hi,

at the moment im trying to control a VXI-Rack via GPIB (Command-Module E1406A) using an old RS232 to GPIB-Adapter (GPIB-232CV-A). Ive already tested the rack via GPIB with a new GPIB-USB-HS-Adapter and it worked flawlessly. But i need to use the old RS232-adapter, as the USB-adapter was just borrowed from work.

The problem: all of the VXI-modules in the rack have the GPIB-primary address 30, logical address on the command module 7, with differing secondary addresses (96,99,111,119 for 4 modules) for each module and im not sure how the commands have to look when im using the rs232-adapter and SCPI-standard commands. Can somebody help with those commands and give an example how they have to look in SCPI-format?

Its just so frustrating to use that old adapter and dont get a single response from the rack, while the usb-adapter works without flaws. Ive also already successfully tested the rs232-adapter on an old Yokogawa frequency generator (which is simpler, because of only 1 primary address).

Thanks,

Echo
