Tektronix 465b Oscilloscope
« on: September 22, 2013, 03:59:37 am »
Hi everybody, I'm an electronics beginner and I found my first tektronix 465b oscilloscope in the swap meet the other day for $25.00 usd with no probes, no manual, powers on and I have horizontal line but no vertical deflection.
I would like to have this working, any ideas to fix this?
Thanks

That looks exactly like mine - the trigger knob is bent  :-\

Have you tried to connect the scope to its signal gen?

A 465B for 25.00? I am SO envious. If it really has no vertical deflection that should be a fixable problem.

To see any vertical deflection  you need to put some voltage signal into those funny-looking BNC jacks on the front.

Thanks to all for you reply, as I said, I'm an electronics beginner, most a DIY and I don't know how to use an oscilloscope very well yet, I haven't put any input signal yet because I don't have the test probes, I can find it on ebay to see if it's work.

If you simply (carefully) insert a small wire into the center of the BNC connector for one of the channels, it will likely pick up enough stray 50/60Hz from the air to show that the vertical deflection works.

Note that I have several videos on my channel that show various aspects of how to use a scope. You might also want to check out the sticky thread in this forum on Oscilloscope training. It includes a link to a video that was taped at a class I taught to a antique radio club in NJ.

You can also take that same piece of wire and connect it to the calibrator output on the front of the scope (bottom row, right under the center of the CRT).

I've lost track of the number of B trigger switches I've seen bent like that.  If you bounce them off the floor, they always hit that corner first.

They're fixable, with some difficulty.  New replacements are essentially unavailable.

Fortunately, that's the B trigger; you'll use the A trigger about a thousand times as much.

Even cheap probes will give decent results, but if you can find a couple of Tek  6065 x10 probes, they also have the pin on the BNC that sets the correct scale lamp.

Hi everybody, I used a piece of thin wire as a test probe today to test it, guess what?
I have vertical, yeah! Now I'm going to ebay to get the probes.
Thanks to all
