The Aneng AN8009 arrived.

  What do you all think of it, as a cheap  meter? I do not want to be hauling the Eevblog/Brymen 235 around.

I got ANENG AN8008 and am quite happy with it.. i had to replace the fuses with SMD ones at some point but besides the obvious and expected issues of such a cheap product, it does the job, and serves well....

Great idea     assuming the SMD fuses can suppress the BANG! properly

and not become a flashover fast bridge to multimeter hell 

Still, there's lots of room left in there for spares, and toothpicks to pry them out

I'd feel more secure and confident lugging the heavier 235 around and get a free pump, 
you never know where DIY probing can take you sometimes

SMD fuses are common in the boards I use for work - they are certainly tiny but quite useful.

One interesting tidbit: Littelfuse rates them up to 250V_AC with an interrupt rating of 100A. However, if you use your meter up to 86V_DC, it shows a rating of up to 10kA - same rating when compared to the multi-dollar Bussman fuses used by Fluke!

I opened my 8008 and found the 3.6 x 10mm 10a fuse in a fuse holder.  So I looked to buy some and the only reasonable ones come with leads.  I ordered 100 for $7  and will cut the leads off.  Other wise they are over a buck each.  Regardless I am glad for this post to remind me to get extra fuses.  I do low voltage stuff so I feel that I do not need ceramic fuses (the one dollar ones).

Reading around forums, it seems I am not the only one to get confused.

Oh, i am sorry, i didnt think noting i did change the stock fuses with SMD ones... i did so because i needed to replace the 250mA fuse with.. something... and i did have the SMD fuses lying around.... when i noticed the SMD fuse HOLDERS would fit perfectly in the position of the stock fuse holders it was a very easy decision.

I am very happy with the ANENG meter... i didnt like to order the same fuses it came with first because as said above, you can only find those with leads and second because you really dont know what those are good for right? While on the other hand, littlefuse parts are well known and good quality so why not? They come at a cost but they are not expensive either ....

Yes, we know that. But the person who posted that picture replaced the original cylindrical fuse holders with SMD fuse holders and fuses.
