uSupply - Questions from beginner
« on: December 17, 2016, 01:15:52 pm »
Hi there!

I have a question that is bugging me about how uSupply works. It is basically linked to my general lack of knowledge about how linear regulator works.

http://www.eevblog.com/files/uSupplyBenchRevB.pdf

On the rev B schematic we can see the C2 capacitor which, if understand it correctly, is there to be a decoupling capacitor for set voltage, right?

But is there any feedback then from the output of the regulator to it's set pin? How is this circuit supposed to detect, for example, if there is a large draw of current and then if the voltage drops down, how is that compensated?

Thanks in advance!  :) :)

Voltage regulation is done only inside the LT3080. So it will compensate for changes in the input voltage, but not for the voltage drop that happens between the LT3080 and the output terminals.

This circuit is not a good example to understand a linear regulator or a lab supply. Voltage regulation is kind of working, but current regulation is very slow.
