What is an Alternistor Triac?

I know what a Triac is. I've heard about "Alternistor Triac" is it different from an ordinary Triac? or just a name?

I've only come across them used for phase control in the primaries of welders.
Quick check on Wiki confirms my understanding that they are a only 3 quadrant Triac.
