what is mosfet Rg
« on: March 30, 2017, 05:49:58 pm »
For the NXP PMV20XNEA, IGSS = 5uA @ 4.5V.  That can be considered to be R of 900k is it not?  So not quite open circuit but still pretty up there.

OK, now if that's right, what is the Rg number that the spec sheet mentions?  7r2 @ 1MHz.  Would I think of this as the ESR of the capacitance CISS?

NXP publishes AN11158, understanding MOSFET data sheets.  In that AN they do not describe the Rg parameter!

I only looked at one other mfr, Fairchild, and they do not publish any Rg spec.

STMicro has an entire application note dedicated to this topic: www.st.com/resource/en/application_note/dm00068312.pdf

You can more or less treat Rg as a resistor in series with the gate terminal.

Gate leakage current is a static current that is quite complex in its nature,
consisting of surface state leakage as well as tunneling and other sources
such as contamination.....

Google "mosfet gate leakage" and there are a number of papers out there
on this topic, process, oxide thickness......

Rg on the other hand is a dynamic parameter associated with gate charging and discharging
behavior and modeling. eg. switching behavior.
