I finally removed the shielding from an old General Instruments / Electrohome satellite receiver from 1982 (first IF Amplifier IF-I Made in Canada) and see that it's all this shiny metallic looking stuff. It almost looks like thick aluminum foil. I dabbed my flux pen on it and was able to solder to it quite well and of course all the components on this board are surface mounted to this material. The back of this board is regular copper with green a coating. What is this stuff? Is it basically a big metal sticker transferred onto FR-4 like material?

FRP of some kind, bit different,& slightly cruddier than most."Very Electrohome",they used this board material in all their Picture Monitors, too.
