You could have an IR emitter inside and measure how much light bounces back. If the value suddenly increases, you know that something is in front of it. You could even reuse the LED that you have for lighting the whole dot as the receiver.

Will resistive touch work. Although person also hit it with glove.
SO I dont know it may break? Is there any way it can be made strong enough??
