Where to buy AMD Radeon laptop chips?
« on: April 06, 2016, 04:23:09 pm »
I am looking for a Radeon IGP 1027, the chip looks similar to this:

I can't find it, or any AMD chip for that matter, on reputable sellers like Farnell, Digikey, Mouser or TME

It is only available on ebay, alibaba and the like.

How can I buy a chip like this from a reputable source?

CPC - Farnell in the UK sell AMD chips, however I don't know if they have the particular one you want.

I'd be surprised if you can find anything other than recycled parts on eBay. This kind of things tends to go straight from chip manufacturer to equipment manufacturer and never be publicly available.

Impossible. The best you can get are factory rejects with missing solder balls which were later added by Chinese workers. But most likely you will get chips removed from the faulty motherboards.

Why is that? Does AMD sell directly to manufacturers only?

Where do all these laptop repair shops get replacement chips?

Donor boards or Ali/Ebay etc. TSMC send them straight to AMD/OEM.
Your toaster just set fire to an African child over TCP.

From the Chinese sewers. Well, there are some very rare exceptions, like manufacturer authorized service centers. But even they can get only some chips used on particular motherboards, and the only company I know which supplied them to their service providers (dunno if they still do) is Samsung.
