which SMD resistor types?
« on: June 19, 2013, 10:25:15 am »
I'm on mouser looking for SMD resistors for LEDs. There are too many categories to choose from. These are just some:

Carbon film
Metal film
Thick film
Thin film
wirewound

Which one should I choose? I'm assuming thick film would be the best choice for LEDs? Also is metric 2012 a typical size?

what is the purpose? if its just for dropping voltage for a led, pick the cheapest with a sufficient wattage,

On mouser you can just go to the overarching category ("Resistors"), choose a value and size and then take the cheapest one. You do not have to worry about carbon or thick or thin film at all.

Don't ask people about metric SMD sizes. Nobody understands them, even in Europe.

Thank you for the quick responses. I'll be getting 100 of these in the link below. I hope it's not really cheap quality, because they're less than a penny each. That's about 20x cheaper than ones with the same specs but from a different company.

0.6p a resistor is pretty common for 100s in cut tape, so I wouldn't worry about quality. You don't need 1% accuracy parts for this, but if they are cheapest then go for it.

Erm... cough... yes, some do, actually. Some even think that the meter (with multipliers) is a perfectly valid measure of all lengths.  :box:
