Dear Dave,

Just listing my views about the topic.

I think it is a brilliant idea to have an alternative channel.

I think I'd structure content like this:

Eevblog:
The engineering content should have a certain technical level and quality.

Altzone:
Everything which does not fit in the above category.

The answer to where to place the mailbag segment is one which you must make. But based on the previous mail, this is my suggestion: put mailbag in altzone. However, if you get some nice test equipment in the mail, do the thorough, quality teardown in the eevblog channel. Perhaps you can advertise the mailbag segment in the teardown by saying that, "If you want to see the unboxing of this thing, hop on over to the altzone channel for the unboxing". That way, people watching eevblog won't miss the unboxings which they perhaps is relevant to them.

I think there certainly should be a technical level and quality to make it to eevblog, however because there are so many whom love the more social content, the altzone is a genius idea.

Kind regards,
Marius

I like the varied content, so I'm not that bothered about where it goes, as long as it has an informative title so I can easily decide what I'm interested in and what I'm not interested in.

It seems kinda trendy for video bloggers to have a 'second channel', so I suppose there's nothing wrong with having two.

I like the couple of short films in the altzone channel :D.

In my opinion, you can post additional content in the altzone like finding a photocopier in the garbage.
But bear in mind, not to screw up your winning product by making too many changes. Mailbag and walktime rants belong in the EEVBlog channel, because they are electronics related. Otherwise it would be difficult to draw the line on what is electronics related and what is not. If you get clothing in a mailbag with "EEVBlog" written on it, then so be it.

A video about bad decision making in a product's lifecycle would belong here as well, because its relevant to electronics engineers.

On the other hand, your personal difficulties with Telstra would belong in the altzone, unless the difficulties arise due to an interesting engineering problem.

Second electronics or just engineering related channel is interesting. Second "trash" channel (aka mixing electronics, private stuff and other) is not (for me). I guess it's not possible to subscribe to only some areas (folders) of second channel?

Leave mailbag on the original channel if the content is electronic related.

Leave mailbag on the original channel, weather or not, the content is electronic related.

The motion has been made and seconded! ^^^^ I could care less if electronic or not, Mailbag Monday is a good segment. :)

Hey, wait a minute, I feel cheated, what happen to this weeks Mailbag? >:(

I saw the 'Hazmat' video on the Alt ch and played it, 10 seconds into it, I thought Dave was gearing up to change his first loaded diaper and started laughing my ass off, thinking of the comedy that would ensue. Imagine my confusion when he just cleaned the sink trap. It was still funny. ;D

I follow your main channel and Mike's (mikeselectricstuff).  Both of you are awesome at making videos along with Afrotechmods (funny as hell but  seems to have stopped making vids).  Do I really want a 3rd or 4th channel?  Yeah, go ahead...I am sure I will follow it too.   ;D

Keep the mailbag on the EEVblog main channel though

It seems mailbag stays then, and anything that's electronics related stays too of course.
Although I'm always at odds with stuff like the $140K unboxing, I just don't think it's that great to put on the main channel.
And for instance I want to split out the Mantis unboxing from the 3hr live show and just put that up as simple separate video. But likewise, I don't think it's that great, so probably doesn't belong on the main channel?

My quick evaluation of the place for the live shows: Are the live shows electronics centered, or mostly personal Q&A? I think this should determine they go.M

I like the variation on the channel. EE, unboxing, CNC-makerbot, Rant, find a job, multimeter hillclimbing, Instruments, how to setup a lab, technician life,...

Only the family stuff, sagan, vacations, i'm not interested in.

Please keep all technician-life aspects on channel 1.

Main channel, definitely, it is electronic test gear.

Stick to a simple rule, I reckon: If something would be of interest for engineers and hackers, chuck it on the EEVblog channel.

Personally I would have put the $140K unboxing on the EEVblog, simply because it has the right target audience for that.
