Dave is going walkabout for a lot of January.

I'm hoping for The Current Source & Marco Reps, but something special from VintageTEK Museum like a video tour would be amazing  :-+

It's a brilliant idea. There are many outstanding channels and it can be tough to find them in the Sargasso sea of YouTube. Big Clive and AVE I found after a casual mention on other channels and both of them brighten my day when they release a new video. Since you know what being a sparky is all about, a small curated guest section would be a blessing.

Agree! Current Source & Marco Reps are two channels starting to come into prime. KainkaLabs would also be another submission at under 10K.

My special focus would have to be DiodeGoneWild by the long-time website author of danyk.cz. His channel has really only been picking up steam recently, but I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've visited his site over the years... popular long before YouTube if I recall correctly!

ooooh....I would love to make a guest video.

My Factory400 has just reached operational status - the worlds smallest complete factory.

The focus is making the jump from hobby to home-based business in electronics mechanics. The EEVblog has had an enormously positive contribution to my success. Only 4 videos uploaded, the next few will focus on electronics projects - how I work through concepts, design, engineering, pick and place assembly (the cold reality), testing products for release into the wild, etc....

Either way -I like the idea of any guest videos.

The Haas CNC is a PARTY! I have been able to spool it up full speed and full power - RIPPING through aluminum. I am using it at the moment to make new fixtures for my pick and place machine. I have a big job that needs to finish in a couple of weeks - tons of assembly, testing, laser engraving. A CNC machine is extremely helpful to make assembly fixtures.

Currently scrambling to get numerous PCB's into the fab - each one is somewhat outside my skillset so there is a lot of finger crossing going on.

I've added a poll to select video frequency, as I'm already getting quite a few responses and might even end up with enough videos requests for a new one each day.

You may have a lot more people wanting to view this thread or vote than you think because your link on youtube is a bit broken (missing slash at end). You have https://www.eevblog.com/forum/blog/announcement-guest-videos-request, which sends people to the forum, instead of https://www.eevblog.com/forum/blog/announcement-guest-videos-request/, which sends people to this specific thread.

Btw, I love the idea!

Dave, I would like to see Chris do a video while you are gone.

There are also some great guys who have smaller channels (1-100k) I follow that I think would be fun and interesting for the EEVBlog audience.  Some of them, like Alan and Mike, you know and have had them on TheAmpHour before, and some of them are much less known but still great.

WSAEW/Alan makes great videos:

Thomas Sanladerer

Mr Carlson's Lab

ECProjects
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoWAZOGQAnBJTtgKSxK2Dvw

AllAmericanFiveRadio
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrKt6CZ5ZTBgbYcCiLGS2Lw

BTW, rather than a poll, I would say the frequency should depend on how MANY other people offer videos.  If you get enough submissions for every day do it, if it is only enough for every three days, then do that etc.

On your video, you suggested that, perhaps you wanted YTers with less than 10k subscribers so that you could give them a hand up. Is this still the plan? Also, are you only considering from your YTer list, can anyone ask? I am not on your (EZ's) YTer list.

I see a lot of requests for favorite YTers and I thought this was only for lower subscribed channels. If you are concerned about your ratings, I understand if you change your mind and only use popular YTers, but would like to know for sure before I go to the trouble of making a video and submitting, etc. The way I see it, in a video for this purpose, there should be a Dave reference (or 2, or 3, etc.), and Bob's your uncle, and then you would be in like Flynn (Erroll Flynn, that is.).

I don't care how many subs you have, if I like your video and think it fits, then that's all that counts.
Although obviously you need to have a channel with existing videos, no point promoting a channel with only one or two videos.

Yeah that was the idea, yet most people seem to be suggesting their favorite already big youtuber, what's the point in that?
It's not like this is a going to a collaborative video, so what value is there on seeing a big Youtubers video on my channel that you already follow anyway?  :-//

Don't overlook that with all polls on the forum the results reflect the views of a relatively small and self selected group. If there was an choice "Go walkabout for a month and put feet up." I'd have picked that. In the absence of content prepared earlier that's the second best option in my view.

There IS an option for that, the last option. If you don't like the idea, say so.

Hi all! I am just guessing, but my two cents are those guest videos could be categorized.
Something like a very short uppercase description or a hashtag {tutorial, lecture, tear-down, troubleshooting, prototyping, factory, programming, retro, future, review, top, extreme-test, digital, analog, rf, audio, video, general, ...} in every title.
It would be just easier for all to watch one's favorite categories at first when looking at the list of your videos (especially when it looks like people want a truckload of guest videos).
I hope every video will show something more than "Hi! I am a YouTuber and my channel is there. Sub&Like me. [EOV]". Seeing a best-of-whole-channel mashup or a flagship video for every channel would be cool.
Adding categories would also help to keep the rule "don't hate, just select your favorite genre" alive.

As much as Dave may deserve a break, he is obviously still mindful of his following.  People don't like getting "abandoned" (a strong word, I know, but it encapsulates the concern) - even if the reason is valid.

This solution is brilliant.

For starters, Dave will be vetting the contributions offered, so if you like what Dave does (even if not for every video) then what gets presented will likely be of a similar interest.

Next ... Dave can do this with minimal time outlay - so he can still get his break, especially if a lot of the organisation is done beforehand.

Third, smaller channels will get a healthy boost - from not only the exposure from appearing on the EEVblog channel, but also a tick of approval from Dave.  No tweet is going to be that beneficial.

Lastly, we still get to have our "fix" on subjects that have caught Dave's eye ... even if he is not presenting them.  No long drought until he gets back on deck.

It also won't hurt Dave's reputation either - but I doubt that would have figured in his thinking.  I've only met him the once, but he seems to be a stand-up Aussie guy who hates bullshit, appreciates genuine effort and will help where he can.

This idea is good on so many fronts, that I can see it having possibilities of becoming a regular annual event, especially if the effort is worth it for Dave and the content is well received.

We each will have our own preferences and circumstances over the holiday period can affect what we eventually end up doing.

Personally, I would be curious to see what Dave puts up.  I don't have much time to wade through Youtube channels, so this exercise promises to be potentially useful in finding interesting content.

Australia is a bloody big country, I think Dave is still not quite finished seeing all of it. There are a lot of places there to see, all of them unique in their own rights, and well worth the visit.

Same for me, I live in a country where the UK would fit in the one province and still leave room over. You could place the whole of Belgium or the Netherlands in the one city as well.

I'd like already known Youtubers to make EEVBlog inspired videos. Maybe do an Australian accent, do it all upside down or tweak the content so that it's more in the style of the regular EEVBlog. You could have a lot of fun with that and it prevents the videos from being just another video from that content maker.

The way I imagined it was that other youtubers would be doing a "Dave" impersonation. Doing an EEVBlog style video such as a "Don't turn it on, take it apart" or a shootout, or a rant or something.

I didn't picture it being just someone else publishing a video from their own channel on Dave's instead.

You might want to make a post about this on YouTube to ask your audience more directly. Not sure if the post feature directly supports polls, but you could list some options as comments and ask for upvotes.

I posted in in the other blog section at the time,
and was always adamant this is about 60% effort
in every regard, and could do better, but I don’t exactly
have ppl sending stuff from over the world.
Even the Speak & Math really was borrowed for this.

Please, no.

It might be fun and comical to do this on the odd occasion, but as a fill-in for a period of (I'm guessing) a number of weeks, it would be just too grating on the nerves.

It's also absolutely contrary to the objective that Dave has stated - giving other, smaller content creators a boost in visibility.  I certainly don't want to see other creators trying to emulate or 'send up' Dave and his style - I want them to show me what they are like in presentation.

Quote
I didn't picture it being just someone else publishing a video from their own channel on Dave's instead.

I did.  Perhaps with an intro by Dave - but not necessarily.  We all know what Dave is like - but this exercise is one where I believe the only influence exerted by Dave on what is presented and how - is his judgement on what he believes is worthwhile.

If, however, there is a send up or some other hommage inspired by Dave's style, then it better be a cracking good one.

I don't think you're quite getting the picture. It can, and will most likely, be just content inspired on the regular EEVBlog episodes. There's plenty of things makers can do that combine their regular content with that of the EEVBlog. Remember that these are creative people and they could come up with some amazing things.

Just plunking a bunch of random people on the EEVBlog sounds like a bad idea. If I want to see those, I'll go to their channels. By making it EEVBlog inspired you get videos that otherwise wouldn't have happened and you better cater to the EEVBlog audience.

I like this idea and I will drag out a idea from the scratch book and start filming today, if I am to meet the deadline while also being a father/lover/worker on the side ;)

Had I known about this just some hours earlier, then I might have submitted this video, but nonetheless; thanks to Cliff Matthews for commenting on my video today and telling me about this opportunity.

edit: Isn't it possible to just link a video instead of it getting embedded?

That is certainly possible - but it won't produce the same result.  By having your content actually appear on Dave's channel, you will get interest and views - and street cred - that will exceed simple link sharing.

I think he's asking how he can post a link in this thread, instead of an embedded video. It appears the forum insists on making it an embedded video, even if you add hyperlink tags.

Wishing I was not so busy - the ideal video from me would be electronics assembly from prototype to pick and place.

My current project is just about to go into assembly madness and I recall the pain and suffering learning how to do it. There are plenty of how to solder videos - but not many that cover assembly from 1 part to 100 parts and beyond. Organization, tools, bodges, documentation, BOM development, sourcing parts, setting up P&P, programming P&P, and trying to avoid thoughts of jumping off a tall bridge in the middle of it all.

Doubt I could pull it off soon enough.

.... and I hope if you do jump off a tall bridge - it's only because you are doing some impact testing for a new product design.

Wishing I was not so busy -

Did you do an unboxing and use of the scope you won?  Seems that would be good.  If so mention how the other winner got one by buying likes and what Keysight did afterwards (I assume they closed that loophole).  A history of that contest might be interesting, it was when it was happening.  I learned that people can buy likes.  I think this would make the cut.

I made a video, but it was before the Factory400 channel was established. What a roller coaster that was - the scope win has indeed been a career-changing event. As I write this, I am placing a giant Digikey order for a bunch of fancy high-speed parts. I would not have access to this work without a scope to test it.

I would very much like to be surprised by someone making great electronics videos that I'm not already subscribed to.
Never underestimate the power of YouTube SSSHHH HOHHHHHH... :)

YouTube has billions of videos, but people usually never click "next page" on search results.
I remember seeing a great and rare video using anonymous view. Tiny amateur channel. After a month I wanted to watch this video again, but I just couldn't find it. I have been typing common words which (AFAIR) were in title, but got too many videos as result. I found a model name of shown HW (Google Images is helpful) and tried searching using that model name, but got 5 completely different videos. SO, it is very easy to miss a cool video even if you have watched it previously. Especially when one uses different computer or view.

I only hope people will not try doing a mess nor pranks there. It is more than enough of such garbage videos already.

AFAIK, the "+" character is not allowed in an email address, so use the "." period instead.
It's likely better to just make the subject line as "Guest Videos Request" too...

Sorry, but that is quite wrong. The local part (left hand side of the @) can contain upper and lower case a to z, digits, and the special characters .!#$%&'*+-/=?^_`{|}~

In this case, + is being used as a delimiter - essentially addressing a sub-mailbox off the eevblog mailbox. This delimiter functionality is typically configurable in the site's mail transport agent configuration - "+" is the most common choice, but unless Dave is running his own e-mail server, he will have no control over this anyway.

In the competition i was just complaining that Dave was going against his own rules! He told many times that he will just consider the video it self (I ask my self also)
An then in the decision video he told it was not the best video but his .....

Now I'm also not complaining that i was not taken ... just would appreciate a little bit more communication!
And I'm angry that 19 Seconds is enough to be judged  :palm:

Sure I could just keep my anger to myself! But I think a lot of people will feel similar! So there can be a lesson learned  :)

To be fair, watching your video, 19 seconds is enough to tell what the video is going to be about.
It's likely that Dave wasn't interested in the type of video that you made. Thats just something you'll have to deal with.

I'm not being critical of your project - but I watched the video for a bit longer than 19 seconds.  By the time I got to 3 minutes (when I stopped), I knew enough to make this comment:

During the first 3 minutes you make repeated references to safety, separation and other risks in working on such a hack.  All these are valid concerns and including them in your presentation is essential - so you have been diligent in that respect.

However, all those concerns would be the first to come to mind to anyone who has half an idea of what is involved - and such safety issues could well be enough for Dave to not want to endorse it.  I know I would prefer to look for other material if I was in Dave's shoes.

Would you have felt better if the video had been viewed for 3 minutes?  I can tell you now - that there was nothing in that 3 minutes that Dave could not have guessed from the first 19 seconds (if that was, indeed, all he looked at).

As for Dave not communicating with you, I can understand you being a bit sensitive about that - but there are times when you have to put on you "big boy pants" and deal with it.  With his channel, this forum and other interests, I would expect Dave could spend a lifetime just responding to every communication - so I'd give him some leeway on that.

There's an even simpler explanation....

Dave already had a number of candidates and this subject didn't really rate against those.

Yes and no!
Dave is making content with very less effort. Nearly no cutting and talking on the fly. It's like 2 times overhead I think. SURE some videos are much more effort but in average there are not.

As he told he is not good in production of content Bevorhand. So he needs us! He can be happy that there was so much response!
And the first video was extremely time consuming to make. Very shoot looks planed and nicely executed. So it's much higher quality contact.
He will profit a lot from that. Even when he splits earrings. The subscription count is important.
You see what he can do on Kickstarter ;-)

You right I think it will be the last time I spent my time to help Dave!

Sure I would profit much more then him but this is how a win win Situation ist working. And when I calculate my effort the video would cost him around 3000 to 5000€ ;-)

I hope you understand my point now. Communication is key! Dave is not a God  :-/O

Wow..... that was a crazy response.

This whole thing is Dave's sandbox that we all play in. His channel, forum, and rules.

What does he 'need' from you? Nothing. What do you need from him? Apparently a whole lot.

Dave has been reasonable and fair in the way he conducts his business which explains the huge audience. You are not being reasonable in any way.

Make your own sandbox and invite 500,000 people to come play.

I think you are wrong. It is only 12 days. Not an uncommon amount of time without new content for his channel. Besides that his content and overall quality is great. He will not lose subscribers for 12 days without a video.

A lot of views are probably not from subscribes so there is a big chance they do not even notice that he has not made new video's in 12 days.
I watched him from the first video but subscribed something like 2 years ago.

The risk for Dave is that people do not like the content and cancel their subscription to Daves channel. And he can mis potential new subscribers who do not know about this situation.

And about costing no time or effort, if 100 people responded he must look through 100 video's.
My video is 53 minutes, the first guest made 2 videos of 30 minutes. That takes a lot of time.

If I see a video and there is not something that appeals me from the start I "zap" away.
I watched the first two and I both liked them. I do not know if Dave has chosen my video. I'm just starting and have a lot to learn so I understand he if he does not use it. And if not I, just release it on my channel. That is no waste of my time because I would have made it anyhow. I make them because  I hope it helps to educate some people like others on you tube educated me. And I'm happy they sacrificed a lot of their free time to do so.

Wow..... that was a crazy response.
Spectacularly so.

Sure I would profit much more then him but this is how a win win Situation ist working.
The win-win isn't a promise - it was an opportunity.  You took a shot, which is good, but it didn't make the cut.  Did Dave promise you a review?  I don't recall reading anything like that.

Quote
And when I calculate my effort the video would cost him around 3000 to 5000€ ;-)
The value of your time is irrelevant - and mentioning it like you have indicates you feel Dave has an obligation to appease you.  Sorry - I don't see that being offered or even inferred anywhere.

By spitting the dummy here, you have done more to alienate members than attract new subscribers.

Making a video for this was a roll of a dice for people, it was an absolute crazy opportunity to reach a much wider audience than normal.

I'd say Dave got a bigger response that he was expecting, it originally started out as 1 or 2 and ended up with 12. With Christmas being a busy time I could imagine it being hard to get back to everyone. Ideally it would have been good to get some form of a message back, but might have been hard to do as maybe a final decision wasn't made after watching it first (or just getting an idea of what it was). I think in general Dave is generous with his time (has reviewed some channels in the other blog section, and in my very limited experience replied back to any email I have sent him) so I definitely wouldn't hold it against him.

I also don't really agree that this is a win-win situation, this way more win for the content creator. I'd imagine if anything Dave will lose some subs by doing this over not doing anything for this amount of time.

Joel (the first video) has gained 4K subs in 2 days (close to doubling his channel size)
Karl (2nd video) has gained about 1k subs since last night (over quadrupling his)

It took me one year, 22 videos and maybe 10 live streams and a huge amount of hustling (posting to twitter/reddit/instructables) to gain 1k subs and Karl has gained more than that in less than 24 hours (which I'm honestly delighted about, I can only imagine how he's feeling today!)

For what it's worth pknoe3lh, I thought your video was good and well made but is probably more similar to what you would see somewhere like greatscott rather than the eevblog. Another thing that may have went against you is other than the scope video (which was 5 months ago) your last video was 11 months ago (at time of review) so your channel wasn't very active at time of review. If you enjoy doing the videos stick at it!

You can ask my wife every time my subscriber count is going up i tell her immediately ^^
I have a subscriber display in my labor so i can watch it in real time :-)

Yes a lot changed in the last year. I have my own family now an the priorities shifting and I don't have so much time left for producing videos in my free time ... but this will get better in the next years :box:
I also have my own part time business now too.
I like to make the videos a lot and I also like to educate people. But most people find tutorials boring as hell ... that's why for the moment I'm stuck to project videos.

When i have time I will check out you channel ;-)

I know the feeling man! I have a 16 month old daughter and it's tough to find the time to do stuff. It's often at the sacrifice of gaming with my mates or even sleep  :=\

I'm absolutely no expert but if I could make a suggestion for your channel: play around with different video styles and consider simplifying your projects. As you mentioned you don't have too much free time, but your video style takes a long time to make (I know because some of mine are similar).

Your at a stage where you can experiment with your channel and find a style that suits your free time. Maybe try do a more EEVblog style video, it's way faster. And maybe play around with something in between (where you can still have some timelapses etc)

That YT sub counter is great looking, for me it's honestly up there with Dave's Nixie tube one if not nicer. But your could have made that project a lot easier for yourself, if you used a wemos d1 mini and a 7 segment display module and the end product would still pretty much look the same. Maybe just for the time being you should take some shortcuts on some parts of your projects til you have more time.

Yeah tutorials can be boring, but maybe try think of ways you could make them interesting or unique. I make some videos that I call Two minute tidbits, where I try explain something in two minutes. The second most viewed video on my channel is one of these videos on WiFiManager (which i know you went over in at least one of your videos). So see if you can break some parts out to its own video that you can reference back to

Don't beat yourself up too much.

While your reaction was unfortunate, we can understand where it comes from.  The fact that you've "owned" it, showed your understanding and made an apology has helped your online image recover - at least in my eyes.

As for the issue of communication - as it has been said, Dave has finite resources.  If there were 1,000 submissions and Dave passed on 950 of them, then providing 950 personalised messages would mean an inordinate and impractical amount of work.  Even if it were only 100 submissions with 70 not selected, that's still a lot of messages.

If anything, I might expect that - at some point - Dave may do a quick EEVblab to cover all the submissions, including how the whole exercise went and whether it might become an annual event.

The handful of videos that I have personally made for YouTube have all taken a pile of time. The end result does not look like it either.

Coming from the film and TV industry - I know how much work it is to plan, prep, shoot, edit, etc. The trick is to manage the complexity of the presentation to match the budget of time and money. If you have very little time and/or money - you have to go with a very simple concept and workflow. The only way to grow a YT channel to to pump out content with some regularity. If a single video crushes your, there is little chance you can keep that up long enough to get a hot channel going.

I specifically decided not to participate in this one because it would have really pushed my wife too hard. I already work too much.  :P

I think (If there is a next time) I would recommend to choose some channels from the list (ore make a poll) and contact the constant producer directly. Therefore the response is limited and under control.

Agreed.  Good choice  :-+

The current episode of The Amp Hour #374 with Clifford Wolf is a good companion to this video (https://theamphour.com/374-an-interview-with-clifford-wolf/.  Discussion of the IceStorm toolchain and all of the components that go into it.

Thanks a lot!

Dave had replied to say he liked it and that he would include it, but even with that I didn't want to get my hopes up too much + Dave and the other guest channels were not talking about it so I thought it was best to keep it to myself.

I'm very relieved that it's out! We didn't know the order that they were in (or at least I didn't!) so every evening around 20:30 Irish time it would be all I could think about til the guest video released (21:00).

Looks like it has been generally well received which I'm delighted about!

I'm up about 500 subs so far, which is insane! Lot's of people leaving comments on my older videos too which is great! It took me a year to get to 1K and it looks like I could double that shortly!

If your reading Dave, thanks a lot!

Well just looking in this thread, I have a little less than 2000 subscribers on my channel, but I did not bother to try making a video for this say "contest". My content is usually boring (even though mostly electronics, sometimes a few cat videos or other stuff here and there) and I am not complaining, at all. I do not have any kind of half decent video recording equipment, so you would probably even not want to watch it at all (I mostly use my VGA camera or HD phone). And I do not like to talk in videos. My English is probably very bad too.

Just saying...  wish you luck with your video proposals for Dave.

To be fair, watching your video, 19 seconds is enough to tell what the video is going to be about.
It's likely that Dave wasn't interested in the type of video that you made. Thats just something you'll have to deal with.

And also @Brumby
Sure!
I'm not looking for en explanation. I think my video can not competition with others in a lot of aspects!
As I told I'm not complaining about that. I'm angry sure! How would not be. Just Expressing my feelings  :(

Sorry I didn't reply, entirely my fault  :(
I don't recall exactly, but I think I got distracted watching your video and forgot to return to it and hence reply.
I remember thinking it was going to go on the under consideration list, it's not like I didn't like it and it wasn't worthy, I simply got distracted and goofed it.

Quote
Dave is making content with very less effort. Nearly no cutting and talking on the fly. It's like 2 times overhead I think. SURE some videos are much more effort but in average there are not.

How do you think I have survived producing over 1200 videos and staying sane  ;D
As for "nearly no cutting", my average video has maybe 50-70 clips in it, really long ones can have hundreds of individually shot clips.
And I "cut" a good lot of those clips too, so my average video might have nearly 100 or more "cuts" in it.
Yes I simply press record and "talk on the fly", but what's the point?, that's my style, nothing else works for me. Not that it matters, every content producer has their own style.

Correct, I could have simply left for two weeks and not posted a thing and my channel would have been just fine.
Half my views come from searches on existing videos, and related video recommendations.
It would likely take a few months of no content for the algorithm to kick my channel into the ground and not recommend my videos any more.

Quote
The risk for Dave is that people do not like the content and cancel their subscription to Daves channel. And he can mis potential new subscribers who do not know about this situation.

Yes, I took a risk on this, people not liking it, complaining or unsubscribing etc (which happened), but I thought it would be fun, and maybe I could help some other channels.

Got to admit I'm a bit disappointed in the views many of the guest videos got. The first one was good at 40k, but then it halved, and then halved again for many of the videos.
Of course it's always the title and thumbnail that decide if most people are going to watch, but I was hoping that more people would have "given them a go" so the speak. And of course you have to factor in the "I only subscribe for Dave's videos" people, which I entirely understand of course.
Anyway, it's been an interesting experiment.

I only had a day to make the video for submission for this so I went for Dave Jones style of video (recording the audio in real time and cutting to a minimum) and other than me being a bit straight laced I was really happy with how it turned out. I made a 15 minute video in about 6 hours (which i know is still pretty long), while the video I just released on my channel has taken me weeks to make and is only 12 minutes.

The Dave Jones style doesn't suit a lot of the videos I try do (projects or quick tutorials), but I'm definitely going to use it again for more overview style videos.

Regarding the viewer drop off, I think just given the wide topics being covered and the different styles being used it was probably always going to happen. But to give the numbers some context, my guest video currently has 6K views, which maybe poor by EEVblog standard but my most viewed video on my channel has 13K and the guest video is not even out a day! To be able to reach that size of an audience of people who are interested in electronics like that is amazing.

I've gained 600 subs since the video was released with lots of people already going through my older videos and leaving comments on them, I wouldn't have been able to buy this kind of exposure and engagement.

It's a pity that you did lose subs Dave, I thought that you might, but at least overall the number is still going up (You needed that boost from Bob to get you over the 500k mark :) )

Thanks again!

Dave, Is my conclusion correct that if I did not get mail my video is not on the list ? Just asking so I can release the video on my own channel.  Saves me time because I try to release 2 video's a month and have to much repair work at the moment to make one right now.

I watched them all, some I was already subscribed to, but I subscribed  to 2 new ones. Not all where interesting for me but I then watched them how they made/edit the video. Things like camera angle, number of takes etc.

Although I probably not am chosen I would like to thank you for the change you offered.

Still not bad for most channels. 5K is about the amount of views of all my videos together.

If "Marco Reps" was scheduled-in (still one of the most under-appreciated channels) the numbers would get crack-a-lack'in, but he doesn't always dream-up something as funny as his TS-100 video. As stated, it's not always about numbers, the community needs to thrive too  :-+

Perhaps a generic intro by you personally introducing them as a guest video would take some confusion away and improve engagement.

Got to admit I'm a bit disappointed in the views many of the guest videos got. The first one was good at 40k, but then it halved, and then halved again for many of the videos.
I had a gut feeling that it is not going to pick up, so I was one of those voted for "i do not like the idea".

Changes at YouTube again (I think). A fellow forum member just post a video lamenting the changes.

Is it just me or anyone else had noticed, it appears that the last couple of guest videos were not included in the EEVBlog specific section on the forum?

Feel free to make the thread if there is something to discuss.

Here are the view counts: 43k, 21k, 24k, 29k, 16k, 13k, 19k, 20k, 11k, 7k
Keep in mind, one video per day is a lot more than daves average, I'm not sure what that would be, two videos per week? Even if there were one new video every day produced by Dave, I am sure the view count would also start to drop off. A lot of people can't keep up, have other channels to watch, etc.

Dave, Is my conclusion correct that if I did not get mail my video is not on the list ? Just asking so I can release the video on my own channel.

Again, sorry, this one I did reply to to but it was private, and then when you released it for me to view, I must have again got distracted and didn't reply. It didn't make the cut, sorry, the final one is from Kaizer Power Electronics
I feed bad now, I did try to reply to all submissions and thought I had.

I'd noticed that too, our local YT reviewer Defpom (Scott) told me his vid was up on Dave's channel and sure enough when I looked for it it was.
But no mention that a fellow forum member had got one of Dave's slots.  :-//

Scott got ~700 subs from it.  :-+

Oh looks like I'm unlucky ....  |O |O |O |O
But Thanks for the information!
No problem! If there is a Next time I will try again ;-)
And complain directly if I don't get a response

At least I was not the only one  :palm:

Maybe there will be 14 Gast videos after all

The point was that I was angry! Sorry! .... It fits you well ;-)
The last video (Tutorial about Spectre and Meltdown) I did in one day ;-) But I had to remove like 30 "AAAM"s.... I cannot talk freely before camera I don't know way ... maybe over time I will get better :-)

Thanks for the replay anyway  :-+

Yes, I took a risk on this, people not liking it, complaining or unsubscribing etc (which happened), but I thought it would be fun, and maybe I could help some other channels.

I think this was a great thing helping others and I hope you do it again.   :-+

Thank You

I'd also like to say thanks for the opportunity to have a guest video hosted. I primarily do videos on older test equipment repairs (TGSoapbox) and functionality and it was a great opportunity to let people know that content like mine is out there (if you pick up some common older HP gear then I might have a video on it for you).

Thanks Dave - Really appreciate it.

TonyG - great channel! We originally listed your channel as "Personal projects in the IoT space" but very nice change to be sure! (especially for guys in the TEA group..). I will suggest text changes and your playlist URL - Thanks!

You beat me hands down on the number of views per minute of video bases though :P. I guess it all depends on what Dave's general audience are most interested in.

That's going to happen. It's happens with my own videos. One video might get 100K views, another might get 20k.

Maybe it has something to do with the title "Minimum Viable Function".  I have no idea what that means?  (I am not very smart)

I think your YT name in the title would help.  Especially since Factory 400 is very unique.  I would guess that your setup is the most unique on YT - absolutely amazing.  So if someone sees "Factory 400" in the title they would know it is from you.

Take a lead from Daves naming of his videos.  Name + Num + Title

Also use as many characters as you can and keep up your very very good work.  :-+

Excellent feedback! Thanks.

Next scheduled video is high precision PCB milling attempt. Going to build some special fixtures and test some high-end cutting tools. Should be fun exploring it in a way that you cannot blame the tools. The CNC machine is extremely precise.... hoping for 4mil trace 4mil space consistently.

Combines electronics and the CNC machine. Everyone loves serious CNC stuff.

Short and misplld from my mobile......

Nice workshop you have.  Mine is even smaller but I do not much assembling. I only made a few photometers and some high resistant standards. So I do not need as much space but more would be very convenient.
Most of my work is repair (testgear, calibration gear and  some industrial and automotive stuff). My shop is only around 16 square meters.  But I'm thinking about adapting (part of) my garage like you did. The same reason, why rent an expensive space if you have one, also saves a lot of time and costs in travelling.

Sunscribed to your channel.
