An 'interesting' thread.....

Only the other day a presenter on BBC Radio 2 in the UK commented on how Blogs and other anonymous means of internet communication bring out the worst in people. The reason is believed to often be because a person posting caustic or vicious comments can hide behind their blog/forum name. Whatever happened to people respecting eachother ?

The word TROLL comes to mind so this guy (or child) should go hide under a bridge where he belongs and stop polluting the good natured communications that occur on this forum.

Dave should be happy to get and heed criticism from someone who can be bothered to post it. For every one that posts I'd bet there are a hundred thinking the same thing who just walk away.

I thought "problem solved" was pretty crap and the shovelling LCDs joke flopped. The E3610A vblog was effectively a teardown and I was happy to be shown what was inside.

So calm down fanbois, everyone knows Dave is Australian and a bit of a dickhead. Better than being a bit boring or American ;)

All I can say is who cares?

I don't even watch most of the video blogs, just every now and then maybe. I'm more of a forum person.

If anything I'd like to see more nubes posting here asking silly questions because I find helping them rewarding and I learn a lot from researching answers and reading responses from more experianced members.

[...]Dave's tutorials regarding batteries (35), Linear Regulators (95), Dummy Load (102), Designing a DC-DC Converter (110), Battery Capacity (140+141), Oscilloscope Trigger (159) and numerous others were simply brilliant.[...]

I agree.

As far as the rest of Dave's blogs, I like them all. I'm happy with whatever he feels like posting. Dave is both informative and entertaining.

Keep up the good work Dave!

Twenty years ago I paid $80 for a 1x16 line LCD display on a student's allowance.

(This seems like a textbook example of letting sentimentality cloud your judgement.)

And you scoop those LCD displays out with a dirty garden shovel!

You spoiled the gag before the video was even fully posted.  Have you no respect!

I like dave's blog, but that doesnt really matter does it. Dave likes his blog, thats whats important, its his blog. Not ours.

I have a little blog where I like to post things "Im" interested in. I dont really care to much if someone doesnt like the stuff I post about, its my blog not theirs.

If you have constructive criticism about my blog post it so I can learn from it. If you dont, keep it to yourself. Didnt your parents ever teach you that ? mine did. I teach my kids the same. I thought that was common sense. But then again, common sense isnt as common as it used to be.

just ignore the guy. he's an observer the origin from another side of politic. maybe an electrotech guy, or something that their business is affected too much by Dave's blog. this is politic, we all know what common sense is. we could just make fun of this. serious taking is pointless, imo though. what i need is a "3 stooges fun stuff", but i dont have to expect that to be here anymore.

The video regarding the HP PS would have been much better if, instead of seeing if the input could be changed to handle 240v, film what happens when you plug in 240v!

That's what you really wanna see isn't it?

You know what? It only takes a certain amount of time for an Aussie to prove what an idiot he really is...

Is it as short a the period of time taken for a keyboard warrior to think up a poisonous generalisation?

Quote
However, recent blogs (since he's gone solo) are pathetic to say the least.

Says rbv681 the recently outed poisonous blogger! It may cut deep into your ego but I'd doubt your personal tastes and desires were ever a consideration in deciding the contents or Dave's blog. I know three post in and I couldn't give a fly fig about what makes you happy.

Quote
"Problem Solved" (165) - What is that? Did Reader's Digest reject that one?
It featured amongst your download quota! what do you want your money back now? Take back double what you've contributed. You must sure be punching the emails off to you tube, if every video that doesn't live up to the title causes you such distress!

Quote
Have you no respect?
That's rich coming from an a**hole that begins his post with a racial slur. Don't like Australia or Australians? We'll have no trouble directing to the nearest airport? Whinge to someone who cares bud.

Quote
Twenty years ago I paid $80 for a 1x16 line LCD display on a student's allowance.
What do you want a refund for that too? Hell if whinging was an Olympic sport it'd b gold for rvb681.

Quote
And you scoop those LCD displays out with a dirty garden shovel!
It may come as a surprise to you but odds on those displays were not purchased 20 years ago for $80 a through. Why don't you mount yours in a glass case and start a blog about it. It'd be more productive than you making an a** of yourself here.

Quote
Do you expect Alan to accept crap like that? I wouldn't.

But there's your problem as an anonymous nobody you don't get a say in proceedings, do you? That must eat away at your soul.

Quote
Put your own transformer in. What was the point of the video?

If the video annoyed you then it was worthwhile for that alone. But along with that common theme making you happy was likely never a consideration in its production.

Quote
And now that YOU'VE decided to make blogging your full-time thing, you're asking your viewers to "donate" so that you "don't have to get a real job"?????

Ah the penny drops! You've totally misread and now you've assumed Dave is undermining your belief that all things Internet should be provided free for your amusement. You've been asked to contribute!  Contribution isn't your thing eh? How Very un-Australian of you!

Quote
What a DICKHEAD!!! Get a life!!! Get a REAL job man. You've lost the plot.
Well you know your options! At least you should. Even keyboard warriors should be able to work out the concept of "don't like? don't watch!"
, curious you should have so much trouble with this.

I don't need to tell Dave to produce what he damn well likes when and as often as he damn well likes, he will anyway, and all power to him for doing so.

I herewith would like to formally, officially and publicly apologize for the uncalled-for remarks I made yesterday. The words I used, far outweighed the message I was attempting to convey.

To Dave especially, and anyone else on the forum I have offended - I am truly sorry. I am Australian and I did not mean to come across in a racist manner. That was absolutely not my intention.

I try not to comment on this stuff but...

I'm sorry you do not like his blog, I'm even more sorry you cannot just you know... stop watching instead of making a deal of it.

If Dave wants to use Youtube as his primary job and he can afford it, and as long as he is putting out good content, why shouldn't you pay for the content, i know the issue here is that he is not putting out good content (or so you say.)

Some of the stuff Dave covered i had to pay for a $700 class to learn. You cant tell me that it is not worth giving him a couple bucks for, or at least buying things off amazon (though the link he has posted)

I will give you this: some of the videos he posts are quite long and boring at times, sorry Dave but everyone has them from time to time, but in general i think his videos are good quality and are interesting (that is just me speaking for myself)

So people like you, should just go away, you are not being constructive and you honestly make you look like a dickhead.... btw who uses that word anymore, i haven't since i was 10...

I feel honored to be a part of Dave's forum. Brilliant minds around the world read and contribute. I feel offended and repulsed by the language and tone of this man.  Constructive criticism is ok, but show some class you clown. Does it occur to you that your employer could read this or that Dave can revoke your membership?  I was recently reading that the number 1 desired trait an employer looks for is people skills even over technical ability.  Please improve yours. I just read your apology, after I typed this, and I accept, but I will post anyway for your edification.  With that said, geeks, including myself, are not always known for their social skills, but it is our duty to develop them.

I'm still a little confused as to who would bitch about a 00:1:38 long post. If you think you have a novel and useful solution to a simple problem, I feel like under-two-minutes is definitely an acceptable amount of time to explain it. Heaven forbid a viewer should waste a full 20 seconds (!) watching before they decide that they don't care about how you picked your parts bin up without spilling stuff.

I mean, shit, I just spent easily twice that amount of time on this post!

With that said, geeks, including myself, are not always known for their social skills, but it is our duty to develop them.

I agree on that , and there is an good explanation ,
If you decide to follow the technology , its an solo sport ,
you using all your time to practice and investigate solutions and answers.
This path cuts you down from social activities , friends , out door activities, and you end up as an single bird with an mysterious character.
Well I prefer to sacrifice this and that , so to be devoted in what I do and love more.

Well from the videos, looks like Dave had found an better balance, than me ( multiple ways to spent his time ) .

Either way , its totally crazy , some one to blame some one else that his is not a " perfect " person .
If there is an perfect person on earth I have not see him yet .

Ok then, just get in the list of my friends.

The first Australian that I had called as friend , was some one who had come and work in Greece with his wife,
and actually we was work together for six months , in the same company.
He had only one problem , he liked to do surfing , and most waters in Australia other than waves they have and sharks too..  :D

The second Australian that I had called as friend is Dave ,
he helped me , by contacting the right people about an problem that I had.
And the problem solved.

About you , it looks that you have an positive sense of humor,
something that I need badly right now ..  ;)
