Dave; that Polish tuner is kind of interesting. Did you see how many radio bands it tuned?
As for the speaker connector, it's a standard
European DIN connector

Yes standard 2 pin DIN speaker plug, Grundig etc.
PS.. You should have used the 9V Version of the Batterizer on that dead 9V battery.

I think they were both shortwave bands. Europeans tended to use more bands for their broadcasting with frequencies like 6 MHz providing massive signals to the whole continent from just one transmitter. However they also seemed to be abandoning them quicker, starting with longwave, then shortwave, MW and even analogue FM.
