eevBLAB #34 - A Proposal For Youtube

A Proposal For Youtube

A proposal for a second bite of the sav, Dave?
interesting concept, But I do not think Youtube will let you do this for a lot of reasons.  ;D
it has always been the responsibility of the video publisher/content producer to get it right the first time.
a total product recall is your loss as a publisher/content producer, some go's for movies or video games on disc.
the need to spend more time checking your content. as you have said in your videos, that you do not watch your own videos a lot of the time,
not checking your own content before posting it, is a bad idea.  :palm:
however Youtube may or can add a online video editer for head & tail advertising clips. however this is up to Youtube.
if Youtube let total recall & repost of content then. loss of credibility for Youtube, for all comments, as the video had changed.
just imagine if The movie industry did that. changed or swapped out a movie but kept the title & original movie reviews.
as for embedded advertising, if that advertising is relative to your video then that is not a bad thing. as some out of date advertising can be a time capsule. if you need advertising to help pay your way. just add a legal disclaimer in your video,
saying you do not necessarily indorse or use this product unlss its part of the main video.
if Youtube is your life,  advertising maybe a necessary evil you need to live with.  >:D as some of us still see Youtube as a hobby
with no interest in making a living from it.

It's basically impossible to 100% check your own stuff, so much so that over the last 8 years I've learned it's not even worthwhile trying.

  • If in doubt, it's probably user error.

I think this idea has a lot of merit, but it will need some provisions in order to keep the system "fair" and limit chances of untoward manipulation:

  • Reuploaded videos should be tagged as such.

  • There should be some arbitrary limit of change to the video content, ie. 75% of the content should remain unchanged.
  • The original video should still be view-able for context, not directly, but as a sub-link in the new video description somewhere.

I do like the idea of having pre/post-roll ads that can be added and changed outside the scope of the video, that can be changed independently of the main video; with an applicable fee charged by YouTube to keep it fair. Seems like a reasonable approach. Should these be able to be ignored, or opted into for those with YouTube Red subscriptions?
