Hei Dave, you forgot that Louis Rossmann's lab has 110V@60Hz so 1000W is 9.1A and I  think the cabling vill generate som voltage drop if the station is on the same phase as the lightning. This blinking is not unusual with LED lightning and large current pulses on the supply lines.
