Dr Barry Marshall, winner of the 2005 Nobel Prize for Medicine visits the EEVblog lab to sniff some vintage gear and discuss his Nobel prize winning discovery and treatment for stomach ulcers.
Dr Marshall discovered that Helicobacter Pylori bacteria was responsible for stomach ulcers, and *not* stress!
Along with his love of vintage HP gear, early Intel processors and vintage Tek scopes!

On the subject of electronic engineers getting migraines.

Seriously watch out for any old metal-can transistors that have white crystals growing on the metal can or a white powered around them!

I'm not 100% sure what it is, maybe a beryllium oxide or arsenic. 
But it will give you one HELL of a migraine very quickly if you get even a microscopic amount on your hands and then eat something.
And i'm sure a larger quantity than that (still pretty small) would be much more dangerous.

I like the directions he took ... was interested in electronics, but components tended to be out of the reach of mere hobbyists - so he took up Medicine in order to have the funds to support his electronics interest.

Pretty down to earth guy.  I hope we see more of him with Dave.

I wasn't sure where this was going to go, but I really enjoyed it despite there being almost no electronics in it. I have a huge amount of respect for people who can explain very complex things in such a clear way to the man on the street. What a top guy!

What a fun episode! And a funny one too.

I found this very informative and interesting. I remember this thing about ulcers being caused by bacteria being something that I heard/read briefly about years ago. It seemed like a novel thing which made it really interesting, as the casual relationship for the ulcers in the stomach seemed like such a grand discovery in modern time.
