Being a ham (WA1KLI), I was pleased to see Dave visited the Manly Warringah HAM Radio Society.

I was a little disappointed that we didn't get any video of their antennas so I would like to share this youtube link:

Hams in Australia have a proud history of being involved in cutting edge research going back to the inception of ham radio.

Dave, if you get a chance I would love to see more video showing hams down under. Perhaps you could show one of the many hams there who routinely bounce signals off the moon along with video of their antennas?

It was in this country, that the cotanger antenna was invented by famous radio operator and then Yaesu agent Richard Smith (OAM).
Thousands of cotanger antennas are pressed into service daily, both in Australia and overseas.

I believe dear old Uncle was jesting,referring to the habit of some sections of the community (Google for "Bogans"),"temporarily" replacing broken car radio antennas with bent  coathangers.

The owners often show their artistic talent,with many of these coathangers bent into fantastic shapes,such as maps of Australia (minus Tasmania),kangaroos,flowers,etc.

Coathangers are also useful for unlocking your car if you locked the keys inside,or someone else's car if you are of a criminal bent.
(Or,at least they were with older cars)
