EEVblog #670 - FLIR TG165 Lepton Sensor Followup
« on: November 04, 2015, 01:02:06 am »
Hello,

First time poster here, long time viewer from the USA.
I watched Daves's video on the FLIR TG165 breakdown
and I had a question I hope someone might be able to answer.

In the video Dave put the TG165 in an environmental chamber (Im jealous I want one!)
and the imager was not able to detect him, Im not sure if this was because the IR spectrum
was not able to detect through the glass or if this was inherent to all imagers when dealing with
ambient temperatures that are greater then the temperature being picked up from a human body?

If the ambient temperature ... Lets say inside an auto-mobile is ~ 60C (140F)
would a thermal imager be able to detect the IR signature from a human if its less then that?
I have just completed hooking up an MLX90620 (16x4) thermal imaging IC to an Arduino UNO
and I am currently in the process of building a shield for it.

Thanks
mikey
