EEVblog #707 - Rigol Oscilloscope Probe Performance
« on: January 21, 2015, 10:36:31 pm »
This video is a response to a forum question that asks if the RP2200 150MHz probe supplied with the DS1054Z is degrading the performance of the scope compared with the 350MHz RP3300 supplied with the DS2000.
Are there any performance differences between the two probes on a 100MHz bandwidth DS1054Z?

The forum thread question: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/scope-probes-as-supplied-by-rigol-for-the-low-end-scopes-a-discussion/

Wow.  Lots of those youtube commenters are dicks.

As someone who followed the original discussion here in the forum, and as a 1074Z owner, thanks for doing this quick video.

Isn't the rise time of a DG4000 a bit marginal to be drawing conclusions between 150MHz and 350MHz probes?

Seems like something that needs to be taken into consideration because the actual bandwidth of a '100MHz' 1000Z is more like 150MHz.

I learned a lot from this video thanks Dave . There is another question I w like to ask you guys . This thing about scope probes I I had two probes one 60mhz and other 100 mhz. Which one would be the best. I ljust wanted say I appreciate you DAVE Jonrs and all the rest of you EE

No. As mentioned in the other thread, the idea was to confirm or deny the big differences between probes from the forum user, and the user used a timebase 10 times slower than I did. The rise time was 3ns.

There is no noticeable difference between them up to about 50MHz, it will be the same response. The 100MHz one will work at 100MHz with a reduced response as per spec ( lower voltage than actual, but still in spec), but even the 60MHz one will still have a response at 100MHz. will be a lower voltage shown, and might show the waveform incorrectly as the higher frequency components are attenuated more, but it will still show something.

At DC and low frequencies there will be absolutely no visible difference.

In the youtube comments a user said what follows. Is that important?
