EEVBlog #768 Cordless Wriststrap dangerous?
« on: July 20, 2015, 08:01:42 pm »
Daves newest video about a wireless antistatic wriststrap..... this thing is not only a scam, it is also quite dangerous. The safety resistor inside a wrist strap is not only to dissipate the charge slowly, it's also for wour own safety. It will protect you from being electrocuted when touching a live conductor while wearing the strap.

Now this wireless wrist strap has a resistor built in that contacts the philips screw on top. So far so good... But directly under the thin label is a hex nut that is directly connected to the skin contact plate. An aluminum foil label.... not a very good insulator! It's like wearing jewelry while repairing a high current power supply.   O0
