EEVblog2-Blurry font scaling problem
« on: July 18, 2018, 09:16:17 pm »
Dave, I just wanted to mention that while the video may look ok at 150% scaling on a 32-inch monitor, everything was impossibly small even at 150% scaling on my 15-inch, 1080P laptop viewed at fullscreen.  I don't know what percentage of viewers use laptops, but this experience for us was not very good.  I simply couldn't make out anything you were pointing out or doing.  Everything was still tiny.  I hope you will consider this in any future video involving sceen capture of the desktop or an app's display.  Basically, please just preview what the Youtube video looks like on a much smaller screen.

Edit:  If I'm the only one viewing on a 1080 laptop, then obviously I withdraw my comment.  I'm told by fellow Dave watchers in my town that most viewers have 4K now.  Didn't know that.

On my 24" 1080 display it wasn't like I was reading what was showing on Dave's screen. I was more interested in what he was saying, as I am intimately familiar with the issue since at work I have my laptop plus two external displays that are different physical sizes as well as resolution, so the scaling settings can be great fun. At home I have no such problem, because when I replaced my displays at home, I bought two identical ones, and they are large enough that even my poor vision has no problem with 1080 at 100%. At work I am stuck with what we have sitting around. I wouldn't have even attempted this prior to Windows 10 - despite some issues with older apps as Dave demonstrated, the scaling functionality in Windows 10 is overall quite good.

I had to do this video in 4K capture, as that's the entire point of the video, so that you can see the actual real difference.
If you don't have a 4K monitor to see that then sorry, but that's just the way it is.
I don't normally do 4K captures for this very reason, all my screen captures are normally 1080.
It's a single take 2nd channel video, I was not going to put any effort into it.

I had a different problem unrelated to Dave's video.  Youtube only provides the 4k video in the VP9 codec for which I have no hardware acceleration.  Solving this might be possible with a change in OS and graphics driver but I am leery of doing that on old hardware.  I have no trouble with 4k60p H.264.
