I agree. It's a matter or proper design on not. The (older at least) model 87 uses self tappers but they are as I recall quite long so have lots of 'meat' to grab onto.

Self tappers can easily chew up the plastic if you don't start them off nicely by hand when you put them back.

Fluke will ignore it and continue not worrying about screws you don't need to remove.

Im willing to pay something like 300 euros for an high quality made multimeter .
So why some taiwanese 40 $ multimeter (ELENCO M-2625A )can have the metal inserts thread for screws and one expensive like Fluke 87v can't ?
I also seen on the net too much people complaning about the enclosure case of this meter and personally i also think that them are right, however it's obvious so no more comments.........

Maybe metal insets are weaker. How will you fix then to the plastic?

The two main problems I've encountered with self tappers into plastic not lasting are when you have ham-fisted types that think they're doing up a wheel nut on their car - or when you cross thread them when re-fitting, which chews out another thread.

The latter is easily prevented with a little care...

Self tappers can easily chew up the plastic if you don't start them off nicely by hand when you put them back.

Sadly, the reality is most people overtighten those, too.

There's no point, with Fluke DMMs. Whatever they are doing with those self tapper screws into plastic, they're doing it right, because I've never had one fail or strip, and I've never heard of it happening with genuine Fluke DMMs. So why fix a problem that doesn't exist?

Self tappers are also more likely to hold the meter together in an explosion scenario within the meter. Think about it. Screws into metal threaded inserts, but what holds the inserts in? Its the outer ridges of the insert press fit into the plastic. It's going to have a lot less grip than some of the meaty self tappers Fluke uses.

I was just thinking, maybe I should go with plain blank cardboard box and whack a big stamp on each one: "EEVblog No bullshit Packaging", rather thank some fancy pantsy  graphic design?
EDIT: I just checked with eco-friendly SWMBO and she gave that idea the  :-+

Yes. No  fancy pantsy graphics designer will please everybody.

Even simpler: Double-box them. Make a "No bullshit" shipping box that fits the other box snugly. That way you won't have to re-box all those meters.

So it's already decided.

You definitely should do custom boxes, thier design is very poor & old fashioned in my opinion.
Maybe I can hold a 99designs contest?

Mine arrived today. Yeah !! :-+   :-DMM
Import charges and VAT £21.20 Boo  :--

Glad I didn't enter the Scope givaway, would need to sell the car to pay the taxes  :)

It does whistle, when the backlight comes on, but not loud enough to be annoying.    :phew:

I can't believe it. I got a letter from the local customs office, that they have something for me. From Australia  :D
Now I have to manage to get there within 14 days. Problem: they open their office from monday to thursday from 9am to 2pm and friday from 9am to 1:30pm >:(
Otherwise I could pay 28,50 € for the postal-customs-service, so I can pick up the packet at the post office and pay the taxes etc. there. Ridiculous.
If I'm lucky my boss will let me leave earlier from work.

Fluke meters do get stripped.  Some people just put the screws back then drive them in, cutting a new groove into the plastic boss.

If you want to avoid stripping the boss, then place the screw and back it off until it drops down into the existing groove, then replace the screw as normal.  As a bonus it will also be easier to drive in and feel when it has stopped, thus ensuring a reasonable torque.

YES! I have it!  :-+
But I have to make a confession: I turned it on before i took it apart.
I must say that this is a really nice meter. It's worth every cent.
No problems with the customs this time. :)
And, by the way, I think, that I have one meter of the 'Sydney mass turbulence of 2016', because the box had a crushed corner and the manual was missing. Anyway, there is only one genuine version of the manual, and this you get only online.

Greetings from Germany

No, the backlight talks to me. Maybe I'll hack into it and change the cap but in the moment it doesn't disturb me that much. And at first I want to find out, if the serial interface is only missing the IR-LED or if it isn't implemented at all. But there is no need for me to hurry.
And I forgot to mention, that the LoZ-mode is extremely nice. That, in combination with the CAT IV-rating and the nice probes with the 4mm tips makes it a nice electrician's meter.

Finally, after 3 weeks in customs, my EEVblog DMM arrived! I wasn't even hoping that it would arrive after so long, but now I have a nice DMM  :-DMM

It finally arrived. After almost 4 weeks, my EEVBlog DMM managed to escape "the big void" (customs). I almost thought it got lost. It is a very nice DMM  :-DMM.
