First!  :-DD

Edit: Really, though, I like this new segment. It's nice to see you answering questions directly even if the comments found on Youtube aren't exactly of the highest quality on average. Most content creators completely ignore comments or even disable them.

Good luck with your surgery, by the way.

Most content creators completely ignore comments or even disable them.

Disabling comments is just stupid. Ignore them totally if you don't like them, but comments are essential for a channels growth and success.

Second!

...off to watch that Siglent Spectrum Analyser teardown.

It seems I left that one on the backburner!  :-[

Well, to the quality of the content question. I do agree that video quality dropped significantly.

If some interesting thing takes more than 5 minutes to setup, forget it, it is not happening. More and more things get tabled for later, which never happens. This is understandable, since you need to make scheduled videos, but it is also very apparent and is not looking good.

More and more videos (including this one) are of a type that is easy to make (comparatively, of course) - talking head or screen capture.

Edit: Just for comparison, quality of Mike's or Micah's videos is superb, but those videos are rare, but they are way more enjoyable.

I guess it is just a different style and the need to make some money out of it. Unlike Mike's videos, I mostly "watch" Dave's videos in the background without paying much attention, anyway, there is just not enough "good stuff" there to warrant full attention.

I skip through a lot of videos.  Is there really a need to make them a certain time content?  Its a video.  If there is something a beginner doesn't understand, they can back up.

One thing that I've been missing on your channel recently are videos where you do design work. Those used to be interesting.
<fellbuendel> it's arduino, you're not supposed to know anything about what you're doing
<fellbuendel> if you knew, you wouldn't be using it

Nice segment.

As I wrote over @ youtube:
Quote from: what I wrote on youtube
Any chance you may want to talk about Power Supplys and Electronics a bit more?
And especially take a look at some higher End ATX PSUs?

And also tell something about the importance of voltage regulation and ripple & noise as well as output protection.

I'm asking because some ATX PSUs, even in the higher price range, do not have working output protection. So it's entirely possible to burn a DC-DC module. Or they don't switch off when they are heavily overloaded...?

an example of bad protections and another example is the EVGA 550GS...

I won't start to bother you on capacitors (yet), but please, please take a look at the datasheet of the capacitor.
TDK Lambda held a webinar here in Germany some time ago, with Conrad.de where the question if japanese capacitors are really better or not came up.
He answered that it's not and it all depends on what you want and what you are willing to pay for.

As for companys like Teapo (wich aren't that bad by the way), they are mostly rated for the worst low ESR capacitors they sell and most japanese companys don't have capacitors in that range...

I would really be happy if you'd take a look at those things and make a short video about it!

I like the idea of this video.  Giving a video response to questions/comments is a great way to maintain a solid connection to your audience.  Much like picture-in-picture.  ;D  Videos work much better than typed text.  Text lacks the ability to convey expression outside of a couple of formatting options.  I liken communication via text as trying to appreciate opera via teletype.

The only criticism I would make is that some of the responses went on for longer than I felt was necessary, sometimes repeating ideas.  I realise this will happen with unscripted content, but just something I felt was more prominent than I felt it should be.  I did notice there were several editing cuts (so one wonders how long you did spend on the shoot) but I do appreciate the effort to trim it down.

Like any of my comments - throw them into the mix and see what sticks to the wall.

Oh dear  :-[  Now wish i did not post that "Third!" comment. It's a silly thing to post and I assumed it would quickly get buried in all the comments and no one would see.  :palm:

I like!
There's something in me that says that answering troll comments is pointless and a loss of time because they'll of course never learn from it anyway or not even read it (definition of a troll...), but in this form it could have the advantage of being educational for others in a much more useful way than a written reply.

About the voice... you just get used to it I guess ;D I had a very hard time back when I discovered the channel a couple of years ago, but the content was interesting enough to "put up with it"... it doesn't disturb me anymore.

Some people may not like Dave's voice - but I don't find it a real problem.

One thing that is a BIG PLUS is that it is clear.  This is very important.

Dave,

at first, I hope you'll get better quickly, after your cruciate ligament repair.
(What about a teardown and repair video of your knee, during surgery  ;D ;D ;D ? )
Weeks or months w/o sports (afterwards), that's really tough, so I can really feel for you, if you were grumpy the next time..

This new format is great, as you're more vivid in this video.. and this is more entertaining, for me, at least compared to the old-style mailbag videos..

Me neither but SWMBO thinks Dave's voice is very annoying so I have to watch de video's with headphones if she is at home.

I think this format has potential, as it allows Dave to address e.g. recurrent questions, and to answer to viewers that may not be interested to e.g. participate to the forum threads.

I hope that it won't be used only as a defence from various accusations and negative comments, but possibly also to add extra notes to previous EEVblog videos (interesting stuff that was left off a video, quick updates, etc.)

Knowing Mr. Wafflemaster's habits, perhaps here is where I'd welcome an 'extreme' cut: no more than e.g. 2 minutes to answer any comment  ;)

Good luck with your knee.
After surgery, we'll get a grumpy, ranting Dave?
So, whats new about that?  :-DD

I like the comments and answers concept.

The best thing is you take the time to answer questions. It’s a valuable source of information.
When I started in electronics there was no internet and I didn’t know anyone that could help me with my questions. I wish I had these resources back then.

Dave, big :-+ to you.

It seems some viewers are like a large chunk of the general population...

They don't recognise that an engineers's job is to solve problems before they happen... everyone else solves problems after they happen!
Don't ask a question if you aren't willing to listen to the answer.
