Forum website address in two places one is wrong
« on: May 19, 2011, 11:29:58 am »
http://www.eevforum.com/

I tried to register here, cause half way down your page Dave, is this web address for the forum.
On the top, is the correct web link, to the correct forum, I dunno why you have a working forum link, as well as a dead one.

~Kiyote!

Has the www.eevforum.com been hacked?  I used a unique password for the first time around, but I'm still a bit wary.

Are you saying registering or doing something else via eevforum.com is not working?
eevforum.com is just a URL redirect, the actual forum is still hosted at eevblog.com/forum for backward SEO reasons.

When you are logged into the forum, and then visit eevforum you are not logged in.

it looks like a cookie or domain/subdomain issue. in IPB I would fix it with cooking domain or prefix. I am not sure about small machines though.

That is what I am seeing. I am not sure about the person that started the thread.

Ah, ok.
Seems to work for ok for me. It keeps me logged in and tracking unread messages using either URL.

It appears that eevforum.com just uses frames to display eevblog.com/forum/ and thus shouldn't cause any session/cookie issues.

However, using frames is probably worse for SEO than just redirecting users to the eevblog.com domain, though sites that just redirect to another site aren't much good for SEO either.

I really am in two minds over the domain.
I like the eevforum.com domain and the idea of separating it and running it from there, but I don't want to lose all my existing search content.
I'm not sure what happens if I transfered everything over.

when I went from vbulletin to IPB I set up an htaccess file to redirect my old links to the new format with a 303 redirect.

I lost some traffic but I was not a horrible issue.

I am not sure on the SMF way of doing things to be honest though. I have never used it or played with the options much.
