Is This A Takeover Bid?
« on: September 24, 2018, 06:52:42 pm »
If you've been around as long as me then you'll remember the good old days of EEVBlog with Mailbag Monday, Teardown Tuesday and even the odd Fundamentals Friday. It appears that those days are behind us (although things can change), but I have made one interesting discovery.

Head off to You Tube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/TheDefpom/videos?disable_polymer=1

OK, the accent will take some getting used to but you'll find a mailbag Monday, a Teardown Tuesday and a Fix it Friday to start your weekend off. So far I've counted sixteen videos for September so there's lots to see.

We will know if this is a real takeover bid when Defpom starts to produce his own test equipment
Should you find yourself in a chronically leaking boat, energy devoted to changing vessels is likely to be more productive than energy devoted to patching leaks.

He's using a knock-off copy of DaveCAD renamed DefCAD but otherwise seems OK as a channel... at 2 orders of magnitude subscribers less currently.

Good luck to him.

I'm OK with a homage to DaveCAD done by fans on their own channel. Lot's of people have been inspired by the EEVBlog to create a channel. It is a great time to set up a YT channel and share your hobby with others all over the world. There is so much choice and it is getting bigger each day.

I'm quite happy with new channels pitched at a more accessible level for me as a humble (if lazy) hobbyist. I'd like Dave to go back to include more hobbyist level content too.

But I think it's great there are more channels where ideas and information can get shared. It will help foster new interest in electronics as a hobby. When I was a kid there were a range of magazines that did that.

I hope Defpom doesn't burn out with this flurry of content.

Lol, I designed a simple high voltage leakage tester project, there is a video series playlist on my channel, open source so you can make it using my files if you like.

Certainly not a take over bid, my level of skills are nowhere near Dave’s, but I do enjoy fixing things, which is why I buy so much broken stuff, and capacitors.

Well Fran's latest mailbag (10) has effectively conquered the calculator space.

The name DaveCAD may be the most famous, but it is far from being the first. In the 1990s we used to "sign" a bunch of different types of drawing <something/someone>CAD.

Oh, the "whys" of the datasheets... The information is there not to be an axiomatic truth, but instead each speck of data must be slowly inhaled while carefully performing a deep search inside oneself to find the true metaphysical sense...
