How does removing ads from popular videos randomly regain respect from advertisers?

The apparent impression they are doing a more diligent filter of inappropriate content with a few dead bodies along the way. Keep in mind that the absolute majority of content is still intact.

Oh, the "whys" of the datasheets... The information is there not to be an axiomatic truth, but instead each speck of data must be slowly inhaled while carefully performing a deep search inside oneself to find the true metaphysical sense...

Not much I would say, but advertisers pulling out are hurting their pockets.

They have not touched fake versions of cartoons (search for Peppa Pig extreme) etc.  Which are unsuitable for children, but come up as the 'next video' when they (binge) watch.   They are are damaging their reputation with both the public and advertisers, but YT appears to be blind to them.

Sorry if it's a dumb idea Dave, but would it be possible to re-upload the same video but bleep out the potential trigger words?

Here is the youtube transcript of your latest video, you can actually get the whole transcript for each video under the video options on youtube (it's kind of scary good actually considering a machine transcribed it):

Quote
00:01
hi I think we need to talk about my
00:05
content because there are two topics
00:08
that just like every six months or a
00:11
year or something rear their ugly head
00:13
and like almost from a day one I've been
00:16
getting this or like from the first or
00:17
second year I've been doing this I've
00:19
been getting this over and over again
00:22
these two things I want to cover one
00:24
briefly and then the second one more in
00:27
depth and this came about because of my
00:29
latest siglent teardown an oscilloscope
00:32
video which got D monetized by the way
00:35
anyway it's not impacting me a huge
00:38
amount but it's bloody annoying anyway I
00:40
don't know what is it pornographic or
00:43
....
24:38
paid shill for siglent you know and a
24:41
sponsor more sponsored bullshit yeah
24:44
come on give me a break
.....

They are striving for the appearance of acting responsibly, so someone can stand up at a meeting with a PowerPoint presentation that shows how many uploads they have 'censored' for unsuitable content. Look - statistics prove we are doing something effective. The fact that it's total waste of time is immaterial..

They are simply trying to avoid freaking out their big advertisers, which almost happened last spring. That's when they started heavily stripping ads from anything which triggers rather very heavy handed setting for their filtering.

Blanket policies suck. I do think channels like Dave's should be exempt (it's an established channel with known quality content). But I can certainly see why they might be clamping down on racy content. Kids demographic is the most important one. This is why movies bend over backwards to get the PG13 rating. Also I don't understand why they have to demonetize the whole video. Like they can just offer it to advertisers who don't mind adult language. This all provided that the reason is Dave's occasional adult language (which I love).

However you look at it, the lack of communication and seemingly random demonetization is poorly implemented.

With all that oscilloscope porn, thats totally understandable ;-)   :-DD :horse:
Dave recently showed some negative ratings from viewers in certain countries that based on the views could have never watched the video. Is there a new try with flagging content as inappropriate?

Channels like ADVChina have also some effect that people republish their videos on chinese platforms with different subtitles and changing the statements made in a drastic way.

Should be in here
Code: [Select]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5jIB2UWK3UIt´s different in this case, as it is all on youtube, but once there is a group doing such things, who knows.

It would work a lot better producing "acceptable content", should youtube have a more transparent approach to why they are doing what. Without that feedback that would require guessing on the side of the youtuber and no improvement can be expected, i almost can not believe that the youtube community is built in such a way that one is punished without being told why and can get the next strike without even knowing why. Maybe there is a collection of rules published somewhere, checking against it would be a good preparation for getting in contact with some form of community management that is probably present there, so best would be Dave contacts them. Being reasonable of course, they are probably getting quite some complaints.

I mean most methods of filtering out inappropriate content have been tried before, e.g. the first chats did have blacklists of words, which were easily circumvented by obscuring with leetspeak or asterisks, anyone could still understand what was meant. A filter that makes no distinction about context or meaning is therefore an indication at best. At least it worked for people with an obvious Keyboard-Tourette-Syndrome.

:)

Reading the transcript is fun...

"In like Flynn"
"Chicken Dinner"
"Price on this Puppy"
"Hacks available"
"Whip this thing open"
"There's some more on the Bottom Side"
"Had several sucks of the serve(typo)"
"Around here these are wet electrolyte tights(typo!)"
"Beauty is a joy forever hold the Wonka"
"We got Dax(typo) coming out our rear end"
"Just picking up crap because I've got leads flapping around in the breeze"
"You'd had(typo) to do extensive probing"

I'm surprised more aren't banned

I also noticed dave saying in like Flynn but i dont understand , whos Flynn, what has he done?

Every time i do a serachon yeoutube for EEVBLOG videos at most i get 2 or 3 results everything else in the list is
mixture of plane crash , big boobs, retarded music videos, hipster crap, etc. never ever do i get a clean list with
eevblog videos.  This hapends no matter computer i use, if its my own or a random public library/internet cafe.

How is this possible? How can Youtube have become so full of crap!? I dont understand, and no i havent
done any prior searches for big boobs or plane crashes that Google might keep in a hidden account file
somewhere! But recently when i try to do searches for Daesh tuck bombs i rarely get any anymore!?
How do Youtube censor engines censor videos without verbal trash talk to lock onto?

Its a sexual reference to the actor Errol Flynn, who was said to be highly active with numerous ladies who spoke highly of his performance.

The Dollop podcast recently did a piece on Errol Flynn that's worth listening to: http://thedollop.libsyn.com/299-errol-flynn-live-in-brisbane-w-wil-anderson

His latest video about "Strap-ons" was so bad not only was it demonetized, it disappeared completely.

Somewhere I saw "not suitable for all advertisers"  maybe in a screen grab Dave posted. Is that what this demonetised is?

Tried from work (Sweden) and home (tried from both Sweden and Italy), both logged in (FireFox) and unlogged (IE).
Only EEVblog videos, ads if I disable the ad-blocker, but no unrelated stuff.

For the Snark was a Boojum, you see.

I downloaded Avast to try use Avast SafeZone browser and a search inside Youtube i now get a clean list of EVVblog videos! Also tried Opera with some tweaks it made almost a clean list, only 1 or 2 videos of garbage. Wooho!

So Chrome, FFox and Explorer is out! :--

I use FireFox on Linux without any special filtering. Going to YouTube and searching for "eevblog" just gives me eevblog videos.

Good summary of how scummy YT's behavior on these issues is:

Thanks for making me aware of that. I think I prefer to remain ignorant.

Now that I have to think about what he says, I have decided the contemporary predisposition for society to absolve itself of taking collective individual responsibility for some of these disgusting things is more of a problem than YT's response. Once we might have expected the government to make laws. Now with the speed of change and the growth in power and reach of large digital companies they have been having the same expectation transferred to them.

Maybe the correct and best reaction is to remove all advertising and make people pay a commercial subscription. Then you would not have anonymous comments. You could control who had access to comment on childrens content in particular.

If that would be an effective solution to inappropriate comments then the greedy scumbags who refuse to pay and want a free anonymous service will be the problem. It puts the responsibility back where it belongs. On each and every one of us.

But then that would disadvantage the poor who whould shoulder a disproportionate burden if the subscription was the same for rich and poor alike. You might need a sliding scale of costs to match various income levels. Like taxes.

You can't have your cake, and eat it too.
