Waving with a big knife talking about nude virgins and Youtube reaction turns into similarly totalitarianism what Daesh does/did. :horse:

I notice Dave has posted a couple of videos on his EEVblog2 channel that feature nothing but white and brownian noise to test YouTube's copyright bots. I guess in response to this: https://twitter.com/littlescale/status/949032404206870528. :palm:

Should've also tried posting an entirely silent video to see if he gets any copyright claims alleging he's copying 4'33" by John Cage. :-DD

I'm calling it. Every one of my new video uploads is now being demonetised.
There must be someone who is actively reporting your videos as 'inappropriate'.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

Not really, as majority of views come from existing content.

Will be interesting to see the impact of this with the changes that YT are bringing in with manual reviews, you'd imagine it should eliminate them entirely right?

ISTR you mentioned Jordan Peterson once in one of your live streams recently, you should consider yourself lucky it’s only demonetization, and not straight off to the Gulag for you.

Could it be that the transcription contains fragments of song lyrics or trademarks or the like? (i guess we can agree that the demonetization algorithm does a terrible job already)

Found a nice argument regarding youtube content and advertiser friendliness in there:

Interesting video from Louis (?) Rossmann. It means Dave has to name all his video's with 'can suck my d**k' in the title. Solar roadways can suck.... Hyperloop can... The new Rigol scope can...

A frequently quoted fundamental problem here is transparency, Youtube don’t give anywhere near clear enough guidance up front, and, when videos are demonetised, they don’t explain why so you can avoid it in future. There is also pretty clear evidence that some channels, particularly MSM ones, avoid the blacklisting completely. Mostly it just seems arbitrary. Perhaps sometimes it’s end users flagging as innappropriate.

There are several reasons we can give for the arbitrary nature of demonetisation, but other than end user flagging, the algorithms are clearly crap. That’s quite a frightening indictment for a company whose fundamental business is built on the quality of its software. More frightening is if those algortihms are based on AI to any degree, in a complex system such as Youtube’s which I am sure is an organic derivation of a series of spaghetti wired tweaks, I doubt anyone knows how it works at all: all you can do is prod it empirically and hope it doesn’t break too much. I’d contest that they’ve already prodded it too much, hence the level of excessive demonetisation.

One way they could help themselves is to re-monetise the revenue lost during the period of arbitrary demonetisation, I assume they don’t. The first hours of release when demonetisation happens are also where the bulk of views occur. More fundamentally, just be fully transparent about the detail of demonetisation reasons both before and after, although as I mentioned, I don’t think they actually have a clue most if the time. Evidently Google’s not such a great software company after all.

I seriously wonder if maybe it could be something about the Ozzie accent & Google's speech recognition?
None of my vids have been affected, and the target audience has to be pretty much the same.

Could very well be part of it.
But it seems to happen on a broad range of content. And like many other channels are experiencing, it now feels very much that our channels have been "flagged" in some way.

As an aside, it's mostly only new content it's happening on, only a couple of older videos have been hit. And that's interesting give the number of videos that I have.

I am not quite sure, given that some fellow Brazilian bloggers had videos demonetized as well - and Portuguese speech recognition is not advanced at all.

Oh, the "whys" of the datasheets... The information is there not to be an axiomatic truth, but instead each speck of data must be slowly inhaled while carefully performing a deep search inside oneself to find the true metaphysical sense...

It's definitely not the entire reason, and there is plenty of evidence my Louis across many different channel types that get some really hard core speech and keywords monetised.

Maybe it simply triggers if it can't understand enough of the speech

But I think his speech is easier to understand than yours, for example, you tend to talk almost non-stop mike, with very little pauses.
The further a society drifts from truth, the more it will hate those who speak it.

But plenty of examples of US channels getting almost every video demonetised regardless.
Most top youtubers being hit believe their channels are deliberately (auto-magically or perhaps manually) put onto a naughty list that seriously demotes their channel in this respect.

YouTube should explain their evaluating process, how they determine if videos are advertiser friendly or should be demonetized. My first idea was that they got an AI. But after seeing all the other examples I think the process is based more likely on user reports. There are channels reporting nearly no demonetized videos despite having clickbait titles and lot's of cursing and f words. I think this demonetization business is a big hypocrisy.
