Title: EEVblog #367 - Live Show 8th Oct 2012
Post by: LEECH666 on October 08, 2012, 07:57:32 am
Because some people asked in the live show how to get rid of the Ustream ads:

Extension for Chrome Browser
http://adblockplus.org/en/chrome (http://adblockplus.org/en/chrome)

Extension for Firefox Browser
https://addons.mozilla.org/en/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/ (https://addons.mozilla.org/en/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/)

Extension for Opera Browser
https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/opera-adblock/?display=en (https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/opera-adblock/?display=en)
It's less advanced, but works well enough.

Extension for Inter Explorer Browser
Adblock IE
No link since I've not tested this one, v1 seems to be free, v2 seems to be a premium (paid) extension.

These Ad-blockers work for Youtube and general ads (Intellitext style in-text markup ads, annoying hover ads that hover over the web page, etc) too.

In general I can say that, even tho they interfere with some web pages sometimes, it's worth to have one of these installed. They make the web a better, cleaner and easier to use experience.

I agree - I don't go anywhere without Adblock Plus on Chrome or Firefox.
I of course disable it on sites I value such as EEVBlog and the Youtube channels I subscribe to.
But the continuous and obnoxious advertising elsewhere - it's gotta go!

Thanks.  I haven't used an ad blocker before but the ads are simply getting obnoxious anymore.  I'll try it out.

Obnoxious is the cue.

There are so many pages that are such a poor user experience simply because the hovering flash adds just don't work, or because they completely black access to a web page unless you click it. And many of these ads open a pop up anyway no matter where you click (for example the close button). I don't mind lean ads that don't try to force themselves onto you.
