mailbag knife
« on: September 09, 2014, 12:55:55 am »
Can anyone post a link to someplace that has the mailbag knife for sale online?

I find it difficult to open my mail and that looks like a rational solution to the problem

I believe a search on "bowie knife" would give you what you want.
I write software.  I'd far rather be doing something else.

Simon the potential "axe murderer".  :-DD
That's why there is normally plenty of parking outside gun shops.
I remember 40 yrs ago walking down the main street in Auckland with a shotgun in a carry slip and getting many strange looks.  ::)

These days you'd not get to the end of the street without being arrested but for the devastating cuts to the police service.

In the Netherlands you're not even allowed to have a large maglite within reach in your car...

I needed an axe recently and was out with my son in his pushchair. I bought it and put it safely in the shopping bit under his seat. There was just something wrong about this. He couldn't reach it or anything. I was just heading home from the shops. But it just felt wrong.

The police took a very dim view of me wearing a Leatherman knife - mind you I was trying to get into Downing St :) The locking blade is frowned on. I had to put it in my tool kit then that was ok.

It is not allowed here (in NL) because it can be used as a bat/baton...  :-DD
Same goes for pretty much every kind of knife with a blade larger then the palm of (an avarage) hand.

In the UK.....I'm not surprised. I'll bet many crossed the road to avoid.....in fact I'll bet many cars turned early also.

Are pieces of steel pipe illegal too? What about large chrome plated dildos??? After all, that's a heavy cylindrical device, could hurt somebody!

That's seriously the definition of ludicrous.

Fuck that noise; everyone has the right to personal protection. I'd walk around with a stinger missile slung over my shoulder if I thought it could potentially keep me safer.

I think a maglite or similar would not raise eyebrows here (Finland). But it could if the police had a reason to suspect any plans for inappropriate use. However, if the police discover a piece of steel pipe on you while you are in the late saturday night street kitchen queue, you will need a _real_ good explanation for it. It will definitely be confiscated same as any edged tools or weapons such as proper knives and there are likely to be consequences. A gun will land you in a world of trouble and only an idiot would entertain such an idea. Well, the steel pipe would already say a lot about how smart you are...
The rationale is that ours is supposed to be a civilized society, not a pioneering frontier. Thus it is the business of proper authority to apply any force necessary and indeed to determine when force is necessary in the first place. With that principle i agree wholeheartedly - bozos with stingers on their shoulder would not instill confidence in the control of their faculties or judgement in general.
Such a principle seems to work better than one would think based on the obvious fact that police can't be everywhere at all times. The reason why this is, seems to be that when the arms race is strictly a no-no, all fights are at most bare knuckle boxing matches, usually. And usually all parties walk home from the match, or at least can be walked to the nearest patch-up station. Also everyone knows that the one resorting to any significant weaponry will in all likelihood face the music afterwards because the police take that kind of thing dead seriously.

I'm sure our rugged friends from the "free" societies consider this the way for wimpy homos who don't have the guts to defend themselves (sorry and commies as well, of course). But let me ask this from our "free" friends: how free are you to walk through _any_ neighborhood in _any_ city of your home country at _any_ time of the day and fully expect to emerge intact at the other side? I can do it and i know many other places where it works. All of those tend to have the common thing that the citizens are not supposed to declare war on each other and the police enforces that policy.

Just let me note that private ownership of firearms is by no means prohibited in Finland (or Nordics in general) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politics_in_Finland. Even i happen to own numerous rifles, shotguns and handguns up to .44mag. It just wouldn't occur to me to pack one when going out for a night in town...

here the first question when the police dispatcher picks up the phone, is there any blood flowing? if not then they wont do anything especially when gypsies are involved in any way, and they abuse it cos they know nobody will come to take them to jail for "small" things... there are parts of Budapest where i wouldnt go in at night without an automatic rifle with a drum magazine and a few spares....

At one point earlier in life I was debating with some colleagues about how many would notice if we walked down the length of town with a SAM in hand. the bets were no one, seeing as you do not see anything unusual about 2 people walking down the street with one carrying a brown samsonite suitcase and the other with a large mailing tube about 2m long and looking like a drain pipe. Wish I could have kept it, it would look nice cut in half and mounted on the wall like our display model.

Friend walked through town one Saturday month end and wondered why it was so quiet. Then he remembered he was in uniform, had a 9mm pistol in his belt, R5 over the shoulder and enough ammunition to stop a small war. Guard duty you tend to forget you are carrying so much.

Here an armed soldier in uniform on the street would not be a cause for alarm as such. We have universal military service for all males and voluntary for the girls, so that the majority of people are acquainted with the antics of the defense forces and can roughly recognize a plausible appearance of military presence. Of course a lone armed fighter would be somewhat curious as say a change of guard or something would always proceed as a team under a NCO. E.g. the presidential palace guard commutes through city center regularly from their barracks to the "worksite". Though not on foot, usually.

Wow wow, lets not fire this topic into a "why you need guns" topic. That would literally become a war.

I was just saying you should check local regulations before ordering such knife. As it's a rather strange tool for your letters and packages.
Some countries or regions might even have limited selling or buying such toys.

I did Kendo for about thirty years and without thinking I kept a Shinai and two Bokuto on the rear parcel shelf. Nobody ever broke into the car  ^-^

If you got arrested you would probably be lucky...

Unless you do re-enactment.  I've walked down roads carrying what is legally a shotgun on several occasions :)  The downside is you have to wear silly clothes.

Same with the one guy here who has a few Burmese pythons that he carries in his car. They are very nice and quite placid to handle, and love attention. Most people however tend to stay away. Wrap the small 2m one around yourself and you can walk with no hassles. He parks and leaves the car unlocked with a window slightly open, and strangely enough nobody has stolen anything from his car.

Snakes are OK, I don't mind them. Somewhere in my files is a picture of me with a python wrapped around my shoulders, we were at a funfair and the guy was selling pictures of punters with the snake around them. He was having a slow day so I got a free picture in an effort to draw in some more people. Snakes that size are surprisingly heavy!

There was the one stripper who used a Burmese python as part of the show. That snake was quite heavy, and half the bar staff disappeared when she walked in. As it was a cool night it was very attached to people.
