My version of the ep#102 Constant Current Dummy Load
« on: May 22, 2011, 09:53:47 pm »
I finally got around to creating a version of the constant current dummy load.  I've been meaning to do it for awhile now, but never found the time.  I think it will be useful for testing various buck/boost switching power supplies that we're always building.  I kept everything pretty similar to the original, so it can handle about 15 watts, which is plenty for my purposes.

I have some extra boards that I'm selling as a kit if anyone wants to build one: http://www.sleepyrobot.com/?p=95

thanks,
chris

hi all.  my first post to this forum will be a photo of my implementation of the 'active load' using the op-amp and mosfet.

on mine, I used an old cpu heatsink/fan, drilled and tapped holes for the various hot devices and mounted everything there.  a small pcb stands off and holds the op-amp and a small molex for power and voltage-control.

also on the heatsink is a thermistor that I plan to use to cpu-control the fan (not shown but there's a fan behind this heatsink).

thanks for the cool idea, dave!  I enjoy viewing your videos, although you are causing me to buy more equipment .. ;)
