New look on YouTube
« on: March 17, 2013, 02:38:09 pm »
When I loaded in to EEVBlog on Youtube I thought I did something terribly wrong.  Usually I don't like when websites change but in this case I rather like it.  You get to see more on the first page (without scrolling).  I think it's the side-to-side layout of the page instead of the top-to-bottom layout.  It all looks so enticing.  I'll have to go rewatch some videos again.  Good Job, Dave. And thankx for all the content.

What do others thing?  Good. Bad. Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down.  Sideways Thumbs?
Sebastian

Yes, youtube changed their looks. Shortly every youtube channel will have same look. Instead of background you have a banner now but on TV applications same banner acts like background. And the videos uploaded get categorized if you don’t change yourself like “Recent uploads” “Popular uploads” and “Playlists” these are sideways scrollable.

You can have a channel trailer if you choose too, or it will show one of your videos if you don’t have a trailer. It is made more user friendly, some people will like it already and some need get use to it.

Strange thing, a YT major interface change I actually DO like. Does not happen every day! Better layout and space usage, more content in front with acceptable navigation to specific features.

The main content is swamped by advertising crap.

Why not just have all advertising crap and a tiny thumbnail at the bottom for the main content.

I want to see what i came to see, not what i'm forced to see.

If it continues going this way i'll go elsewhere.

I don’t see any adverts in your screenshot either, if you mean the layout with the video’s that’s how youtube puts there with the new layout, nothing Dave can change there.

I hate the "new" layout, just like I hate the "old" layout.  I wish they would just leave the damn thing alone.  :palm:

Yes, this is Youtube's new "One Channel" look.
The option for me popped up yesterday, previously it had only been available to a select few big name Youtubers as a trial.
https://www.youtube.com/onechannel

I enabled it, and I think it does work look and work pretty well.
Although I have yet to optimise it and do graphics for it properly, I just bunged up what I had available.
I like the "Promo video" option that gets auto displayed to people who are not subscribed. So they will automatically see a promo video you select in order to entice them to subscribe to your channel. I put up my old existing one I did for a contest. It's ok, but I need a better one.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Dave.

Same here, can't see a single ad anywhere in the new layout, even with all the "go away" plugins disabled.

None of that was there before  :--

I also like the new look and really like that it doesn't start playing a video right away.  Often I would want to watch that 'latest video', but for whatever reason, you could not make it "large size" (not full screen) unless you either opened it in a new window or selected it from the video list.

I also simply prefer to browse first.  I'll start the video when I'm dern good and ready.  :)

I usually watch Dave's videos via YT plugin on XBMC, so I miss all the YT ad-crap.
The only bad part is that the plugin doesn't allow (yet) to give 'thumbs up', so from time to time I login via web and "give a hand"  ;)
