Maybe some minion at the youtube video reviewing department didn't get what was going on in the video and therefore hit the wrong button :palm:

But somebody had to file a complaint before they took action and pulled it off yt...

So the questions are, who did it and why?  :-//

Maybe Rigol wasn't happy that you called them out on those CapXon caps.  ::)

CapXon? CapXoff.

Thankfully, I get my EEVBlog fix through BitTorrent. Problems like this are why I don't like YouTube. They don't care about the users and they REALLY don't care about the content producers. They probably won't even tell you what you supposedly did wrong until you've already clicked the accept button. I have my doubts that a real person has even glanced at the case.

Google puts too much faith in their automated systems.

We can't have missing EEVblog episodes! Please keep us updated Dave on your progress.

Could you perhaps re-upload it as "#823 - The Episode that wasn't" so we can download it? :-)

Presumably Google just automatically take videos down after x complaints. (for x > 0)
Because the video was new the stats would look bad - i.e. 10 views and 1 complaint = 10%

Then they review them manually and restore them - which obviously takes a bit of time.

I think its just crowd-sourcing - i.e. why have a super fancy 'naughty/bad video checker' when they can get their users to do the work instead?

I am quite surprised at the symbol on the button at the upper right of the LCD screen.
That is quite simply the famous logo of the CBS (Columbia Broadcasting System) here in the US.
I wouldn't be surprised if that symbol got "revised" in subsequent builds of this product.
It might not even be beyond the realm of possibility that was the "offense" that triggered the take-down?

...
Anyway, it's magically back up, and I have no idea why.
Account restored, I never had to hit Acknowledge, and no mention of it anywhere ever happening!  :-//

I am glad that it kinda resolved itself. But it feels like a failure in a circuit board that shows once, just to disappears by itself without repair or chance to diagnose it. You won't trust that circuit board anymore.
Same for Youtube. So easy for them to take away an important part of your income.
It shows that content creators are basically at their mercy and they could do whatever they want. Scary!

So it turns out that Dave has some fans working at Google and they got the issue escalated.
In the end it seems to be resolved without a trace it ever happened.

The world never stops to amaze me.

Rigol won't be nearly as popular as it is without Dave.

They are not stupid.

Merely a joke. Besides, I think that Dave showed the signal generator in a very favorable way.

I've heard of YouTube's automated systems flagging music, but apparently it's capable of flagging imagery as well.

"Everything from imagery to music gets flagged,"
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/08/07/nasa_dmca_takedown/http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/08/07/nasa_dmca_takedown/

Sounds plausible. But Dave's message clearly says that it was flagged for "spam".

In the last time i've seen that some "bigger" youtuber and streamer at Twitch get targeted by "Report" bots to get videos and or channels down.

At the same time the video of Dave got down, a sub-chanel of one of the biggest german youtuber / streamer got striked down.

I think there is rolling a big hate- / troll wave at the moment.

Really? Far more likely the normal process worked and service was restored. Occams Razor.

Escalating anything at a big organisation is a slow process. This video was down for a few hours at most. Not a big deal...

That's stupid. There was nothing bad (reputation-wise) in that teardown.

I wonder how many votes from the "community" are required to do that to a channel.

They clearly are too big.
Shameless the way how they take down the video and then send the maker in some labyrinth of pages and/or phonecentral.

Makes me think of all other organisations that are too big, monopolists or false-competition.

They could at least have given the specific reason and the used logic.

I noticed the CBS logo on that button right away, but it wasn't until after I made the post that it occurred to me that it could have been the reason for the video to be taken down.

Heh, good spotting. I'll bet someone thought "we should put an eye symbol on the button", then put "eye symbol" into google image search and that came up.

Could you imagine if this happened to say...pewdiepie...

You know eevblog has its own obsessive troll who follows any mention of eevblog all over the internet and posts spam about it, right? You could make a pretty safe bet exactly who is filing complaints.

And commenters demanding Dave give up his source of income to assuage their offense at a video temporarily being taken down and then restored is rather...short sighted.
