Two-Minute Teardown

I like the concept! Usually when I watch one of your teardowns, I'll want to watch another and another...

I think two minutes is a little short though (and must be difficult for you Dave as you love to talk!). In my previous job, we had what was known as a SMIT (Six Minute Intensive Training) which was essentially just a micro training session on a given topic at the start/end of each shift (I believe it was actually based on a Canadian/American Police model, but don't quote me on that one).

Maybe you could do your own SMIT (Seven Minute Intensive Teardown) ??

I find myself thinking every time he opens a package, I hope he does a full teardown on the spot.
Sometimes he does, sometimes he waits till next week, sometimes it's weeks, and sometimes it has been years and hasn't happened yet (magazine with integrated advertisement based on a cell phone)

It could work.

Send Dave an item with all the screws removed (warning note attached) and tape the case together with green masking tape.

Don't forget to include the screws so we can watch him either reassemble the item or push it off the bench into a waiting bin. That would be very funny.

"2 minutes" rather easily turns into 5-10 minutes which is just about right.
Long enough to get a good view inside and some interesting info.
But not long enough for Dave to prattle on and on as sometimes happens.
And short enough that he might be able to make a serious dent in the back-log.

You're quite right! There are items I've seen on mailbag which end with "this would make for an interesting teardown" but other things seem to pop up. We all know Dave is a busy person and he's doing a lot of other things off-camera so this might be a great way to keep the troops entertained and get through some of the viewer mail (after all, it's only going to increase in volume).

Or, how about a "Three-down Thursday" where Dave tears down three items in one video and leave the bigger teardowns or repair videos to "Teardown Tuesday". Limited to 15-20 minutes each should do it and mix it up so we're not seeing a teardown of three similar items (like in the PDA video; As interesting as it was, we already knew what to expect by the end).

Dave, are you taking notes? ;-)

I prefer to watch a video for 15-20 minutes. Something that can be consumed during a lunch break, etc.

When I see stuff like the signal path videos that go for over an hour, I just dont have time, attention span for it.

I think the 2 minute stuff should be left for infomercial, where you tell me what something does and why I want it =)

It's usually obvious how much effort is required for a teardown and/or how much edited footage I can expect out of it. So on the mailbag if I know it'll only take less than say 5 minutes of footage, then I've usually done so. I think people expect teardown on the mailbag if they know it's short.
