Where to buy spare parts for uCurrent adapter?
« on: June 27, 2012, 12:58:02 pm »
Hello everyone,

I have had my uCurrent for about a month (which I love), I am one of those people who forget to switch the nice adapter off, and when I come to use it next, the battery is drained and I feel like an idiot.

I have carried out a few teardowns to admire the circuitlabs pcb and a few battery-changes of the unit, and the screws which I am fastening lightly has begun to wear out the threads in the box.

I would like to upgrade to metal threaded inserts, (and hack in a circuit which auto-switches the adapter off for me). So my question is, does the australian manufacturer offer boxes with threaded inserts, or perhaps Dave knows of a manufacturer whom has one which fits the PCB /w threaded inserts? Or is the simplest solution going to be to to drill oversized holes and glue in some nuts of the right diameter?

Thank you for your time.

Kind regards,
Marius

I have had exposure to crappy screws in project boxes, that only work (screw)  a few times we replaced them with stainless steel ones,
we got them from a local supplier [from memory approx 2.5mm dia ]

Fasten them even lighter, and 'search' the start of the old thread before fastening.

Sorry, no threaded option in the jiffy box range.
You can use 3 x AAA's/AAA's to power it to get much greater life.

Dave.

Or if you really wanted long life, instead of 3x AAAs in series, use 3x 10440 LiIons in parallel with a small resistor.
