« on: October 18, 2018, 01:56:47 am »
Recently I bought a lot of smd reels and there are too many 50V 100nf 0603 caps on it, so I'm selling these,

https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/murata-electronics-north-america/GRM188R71H104KA93D/490-1519-2-ND/587143

Reels are clean and unused, each reel of 4000 units for 10€, 10 reels available, postage not included.

Recently
I don't think that 10 years ago qualifies as recently.
EDIT: I think you bought a bunch of NOS parts.

Well, as recently as yesterday. :)
These belonged to a multinational company that had them stored and scrapped them a few months ago.

Where's that thread about the availability of 0.1uF caps being bad?  I think there's a market for these....  :D

I seriously don't get what is wrong with what I wrote, "I recently bought a lot ( a batch, a set, a collection) of smd reels", and what is contradictory with the original date of MFG  :-//

You provided digikey link, so for some reason I first read it like "I bought from digikey". It's just that you may think twice before using them for production. They may be not as solderable as fresh parts. Depends on component itself and storage conditions.

I'd be interested in the same.

I provided the link to specify what I was selling, the code and datasheet.

Right. I put these for sale thinking, I don't need 40k caps, maybe I'll help someone by selling them for cheap, although 10€ is not worth shit my time going to the post office by car and waiting in line. And here you go thinking, here is this guy trying to trick us by selling old/unusable caps. Well, done, to the trash they go. Jeez.

Don't get me wrong, I think that's a reasonable price with current MLCC shortage. They may solder just as well as fresh parts, or may not.

I agree. These are good for prototypes but probably not for production runs using reflow soldering.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

I'm getting you exactly right. These capacitors are in perfect condition, otherwise I wouldn't sell them, but I guess you would and there lies the doubt. I measured 20 of these and they measure from 97.5 to 101nF, most around 99, and this is X7R so any lower capacitance could be explained by applied voltage. Can't reflow them right now but I'd bet they'd be perfect, the capacitance itself tells they have been stored properly, besides that I know that for a fact. Anyway end of story

|O Did I ever say their parameters could deteriorate? It has nothing to do with solderability. What matters how terminal surface finish was made and storage conditions. I've seen plenty of parts which were 4-5 years old and solder like crap or 20 year old parts which solder excellent. What you measured is rather high, caps like X7R loose more than 10% of their capacitance with time (ageing) but process is completely reset with heating (soldering).

They have 10% tolerance. Take ageing in account and 80nF probably would still be within tolerance given the age. Heating/soldering returns capacitance to initial value.

:palm:
I just don't get why you are so agitated about all of this? Basically the only thing I concerned in what I wrote is that it would be proper to mention they are NOS.
Here is example how I "sell" parts with dubious origin. http://www.eevblog.com/forum/buysellwanted/31-pcs-attiny24-(soic-14)-for-the-cost-of-shipping/

Then that must be the values, cause your guessing works better than my LCRs meters   :-+

The NOS origin was clear to me when I said that I bought a lot of SMD reels, plus I never intended to hide the date of MFG clearly shown in the picture, plus the origin is not dubious, I exactly know where they come from and how they have been stored.

I would have taken five rolls without questioning, but since you already dumped them just because someone asked a legitimate question... well... too bad.

I’m intrigued what you would have done with 20,000 100nF caps? Please tell...

Nothing was asked. Assuming is what happened. I had one reel already packaged which I'm giving to someone for free. I have other stuff that I was thinking of giving just for the shipping price but now I say fk it, I may be accused of trying to con someone

Obviously not used them all at once. But I guess it is a well known fact right now that Caps are somewhat rare at the moment... Since the price was very good I would have stocked those since I can't get my hands on new caps for a reasonable price right now.

I guess it was a good thing that I didn't get the chance to buy anything from you :)

I’m sure if you move to private messaging, those 20,000 caps will still be available to purchase.

I’m guessing they were taken off the market to avoid all the chatter.... I struggle to see how anyone who is reflow soldering a production run of PCBs would be scouring these forums to obtain a ‘deal’.

Nobody talked about big production runs. :) I tend to stock Stuff that I know will be usefull soon or is somehow rare and could be of some value in the more or less near future. However, I don't run after someone who doesn't want to sell his stuff.

I got to admit, I wonder what kind of characteristics you could get from 400uF @ 100V of MLCC capacitors.

But why would you need 20000 capacitors? Over time parts get more difficult to solder especially if they are stored in poor conditions. A while ago I bought a reel of 100nf capacitors myself but only because that was the only available option to get some 100nf capacitors. I don't think I'll use all of them. Going through 1000 pieces takes me a few years let alone 4000 pieces.
