[FS UK] Keithley 2100 6.5 digit DMM in excellent condition
« on: April 08, 2018, 10:01:56 am »
I have another of these for sale.

LAST CHANCE: £400 £375 £350 inclusive of insured courier shipping within mainland UK.

I have a partial calibration certificate from 5th April 2018. Since it is partial, the last full calibration date stored in the instrument is March 2015 (see picture). Copies below, with confidential company information (names & addresses) redacted.

2w/4w resistance were not calibrated due to a fault which is now fixed. As you can see from the pictures, the unit passes self tests. I have shown a 2.2k resistor under test to prove that resistance mode is fully functional.

What about the failed current ranges? Has anything been done about those?

What about the failed resistance ranges, are they just decalibrated or defective ?
Any chance of shipping to Germany ?

 Cheers,

The above paperwork is all the information I have I'm afraid, but I expect that the failed current ranges will have been calibrated. As you can see, they are close to the correct value, to this is definitely a calibration issue and not a fault in the instrument.

The resistance ranges were indeed defective, I have since fixed these but I don't have access to the calibration equipment. So these cannot be assumed to be in calibration. I have tested a few resistors against another 6.5d in-cal DMM and they have been very close, but that is all the guarantee I can give. This is entirely adequate for hobbyist use but if you need a calibrated instrument then this would need to go through calibration again.

Can you tell me what comes with the unit? test leads, software CD ?
What was the nature of the fault and your fix in the resistor measurement circuit? Did you replace components, fuses ?

Thanks

I did not receive test leads or a CD with the unit so it does not come with any. I've sent you a PM with further info.

The elements of current and resistance measurement were damaged.
If there was something repaired, it's probably not the service of an authorized person.
Unfortunately, in this case, the entire calibration should be carried out from scratch.
Otherwise, the calibration certificate is no longer valid.

Absolutely, I am not claiming that the instrument remains in calibration. The certificate is there purely to show where the fault was, and that now (as shown with the 2.2k resistor) resistance mode is fully working.

What caused the meter damage and what elements have been replaced?

The faulty component was a JFET which is part of the current source, an MMBF4117 which was replaced with an identical same part from Farnell.

If you have a look at the 34401a schematic, the current source is a very similar layout. The JFET concerned is labelled Q211 on the 34401a schematic.

Just to add that I purchased one of these off Namwos doing a 600 mile round trip to collect it and it was just as described.  Very happy with my purchase.  The software and manuals can be downloaded from Keithley and it uses standard leads.  I bought a UNI-T four lead set and a UNI-T normal lead (because I like their stuff).  I've yet to get a temp sensor but will be doing shortly as my lab is all messed up at the moment due to moving stuff about.  Would I buy anything else off him? YES.
